  • Using Gold Class Quik Detailer After waxing

    Hi everyone,

I am new in the world of detailing and i would like to know is it safe (or should i) to apply quik detailer after i wax with carnauba wax,

    Will it remove the wax?

    Thank you!

You will be fine. Quick Detailers and Quick Waxes will not strip wax.

In fact it should enhance your wax.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I use GCQD, but I wouldn't use it over wax! If you've just gone to the trouble of waxing and can avoid wet weather for a day or two, it should be enjoyed in all its glory

Also, GCQD is not a wax booster, contains no carnauba, and for me it actually streaks and clouds too much to use it as a waterless wash or paint protectant. That means more wiping of QD, which means wiping your carnauba wax right off without replacing it. To re-wax or touch up you need Gold Class Quik Wax, which is based on carnauba. For daily cleaning and touch ups, Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere or Detailer D115 (UWWA/D115) will clean and protect with a sealant/carnauba blend while helping to prevent and hide swirls, and its very easy to wipe off. For me, GDQD is better for cleaning and shining plastic and rubber trim, as a clay lube, and sometimes as a waterless cleaner before using the DA machine to correct or polish.

        Hope that helps!

Carnauba's don't need the cure time like a sealant. So he is ok following up with a QD. He will not be removing it in one swipe. Over time it will degrade.

That wasn't my point. Following any protection with a QD creates unnecessary wiping for no benefit, and since I use GCQD, I can say firsthand that wiping is what they'd be doing a lot of. So much wiping will indeed wipe away the wax/sealant, and so it's better to leave some behind, hence QW or UWWA instead of QD. In other words, following a fresh wax with QD makes no sense at all.

Re: Using Gold Class Quik Detailer After waxing

It is fairly routine practice for a detailer to go around the entire vehicle with a QD spray and a towel (plus maybe a small detailing brush and/or bamboo cooking skewers) to ensure that any and all residue or dust from the entire compounding/polishing/waxing process is gone from panel gaps, emblems, door locks, trim edges, etc. In this process they'll often give the full panels a very light and quick wipe down with that same QD just to ensure everything is totally clean before delivering to the customer. Some detailers will use a spray wax instead of a quick detailer for this purpose, adding a bit more protection along the way. Personally, my favorite for this process is D156/Ultimate Quik Wax as it adds a highly durable polymer protection while doing this final clean up. A guy like Top Gear who is a pretty hard core carnauba devotee would probably opt for Gold Class Quik Wax in this process instead.

That said, you don't HAVE to do any of this, and you certainly don't HAVE to wipe down the whole car immediately after waxing. You can if you like, but if you're satisfied with things after wiping off the hazed wax, it best to just stop touching the car at that point. A couple of days later, however, when you've collected some dust on the surface, then it's perfectly acceptable to use a quick detailer to wipe that dust off. That is, after all, what such products are designed for.

Ah, well, that might be another one of those dry weather things

I agree on using GCQD on trim and various other areas (or UWWA), just not on the panels. Perhaps due to the humidity I often deal with, GCQD streaks and smears and looks all wrong. Sorry, it just does. This causes me to wipe/buff the smears, which essentially wipes the wax off, defeating the purpose.

What I was reacting to above was that I'm so "Car Crazy" about my fresh wax job, I don't want to spray anything on it! That lovely fresh wax and the scents of either GC or D301 are such a payoff. Why ruin that? However, I've started to use UWWA/D115 fairly soon after a re-wax to put a light "seal" over it (usually needed anyway due to weather, tree/bird droppings, etc), maybe a day or two after the wax cures a bit and "settles". I'd tried this as a test and liked how a fine mist of UWWA and a very light wipe could help extend the fresh look a bit longer

A fine mist of Last Touch also works great for that final spot check after the whole detail process, and smells great to boot
