Talk about taking on a challenge!!

Leo brought in this 20 year old Toyota Supra with a little of 220,000 miles on the clock. And original single stage black paint. But what's really cool about this car is that his mother-in-law is the original owner.

    That. Is. Spectacular.

Following the classroom portion of the program, and a break for some lunch, it was time to get out in the garage and see what we could do to help this poor old Supra.

Yes, it needed to be clayed.

Time for a side by side test: Thin foam discs with the Ultimate Trio via MT300 on one section, the DAMF System next to it. With the age of the paint, and the severity of the defects, we fully expected the DAMF System to be the way to go, but we wanted to do a test spot with a less aggressive approach first. Ultimately, no matter what we think might happen, the paint is going to tell us what it wants.

    Microfiber at work.

With the tape pulled we see a very nice amount of correction on both sides, with a decidedly nasty, deep scratch still present on the foam/Ultimate side.

Zoomed in tighter, the strip that's full of really bad scratches is where the tape was. The left side was done with foam discs and Ultimate Compound, the right side with the DAMF System using Xtra Cut disc and D300. Both sides hazed as the defects were being removed, but in each case the haze was pretty easy to clean up. On the foam side we found M205 on black foam did the best job, on the DAMF side it was D302 on a microfiber finishing disc that fit the bill.

Time to let the guys get a feel for the MT300 with the DAMF System

    Team attack!

We call this tandem buffing. We also just now made that up.

Covered in D300 Finishing Wax and ready to wipe off.

Yes, that's a smile on his face as he wipes the wax off the paint. If you overuse wax you probably won't be smiling when you try to remove it. Apply wax nice and thin, like we did here, and it's actually fun to wipe off!
