  • STATUS On M80? Looking for some!

Hello All, I'm getting anxious as I can't find M80, either locally or online!!!! Is it a discontinued product?

In the next couple of weeks, I'll be working on a 1967 bug with SS paint that is really dry and oxidized (paint is 6 years old). I plan to hit it with M7 after the usual wash/clay process. Likely at least 2-3 coats of M7 (already bought 2 bottles). But I want to follow that up with M80. I can't find it!

    Can someone help?

I haven't heard that it's been discontinued, but it sure would be a shame if it was.

It's a great polish for doing just what you described above. I think my first ever correction was with M80!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Any idea what else I can use in it's place? From the Megs line, I also have M09, M205, M21 (or 20, I forget), and Ultimate Polish. I don't want to use the M105 or Ultimate Compound on this.

      Thanks!

I'd do a test spot with the M09 and see if that works to your liking. If not, try M205, as it has a little more cut.

If that doesn't work (since you don't want UC/M105 and if you want to keep it within the "old school" Mirror Glaze products), you could pick up some M83. It's very similar to M80, only more aggressive.

Geez, why do I even come here anymore??? Davey, you've nailed it once again! Based on what JustJesus says he has on hand, this is exactly what I would have recommended he try. M09 may not be quite as oily as M80 but if you're planning on doing a couple applications of M07 first then that doesn't matter as much. M205 may actually be the better choice, depending on how the paint responds. I'd recommend doing a side by side test with the two, M09 and M205, and judge for yourself which is better suited to the task at hand.

Jarhead: Thanks for providing some additional options! I was almost in panic mode and wasn't thinking clearly.

Davey: Thanks for your input as well. I do like using M205 over M9 (my M9 mostly just sits there)

Mr. Stoops, thank you! Glad to have the support from the experts. I'm no longer in a near panic. I will indeed try both options and see what I like best.

              Thank you all.

p.s. Davey just got a nice endorsement from Mr. Stoops, so I'll add Davey to my list of "trusted sources." - Sweeeet

I thought I saw some M80 at my local one of my local autoparts stores or Harbor Freight.

WHOA! Harbor Freight really does carry Megs! (per their website). I didn't see M80, but they do list M07, so if I need it in a hurry....sweet.

I did a test spot today. After wash and clay, I did two quick coats of M07, and boy, what a difference. The owner would likely be happy if the rest of the car was like that (but I'll be taking additional steps!) I'll start a new thread for the VW when I'm done.

We know this may not be popular with some of you guys, but M80 is indeed being phased out.

Shame, although I have enough to probably last me a lifetime!

I'm kind of sad to hear that too...

Michael, is there any chance you could give us the history of this product? Why it was developed, or what was it developed to address? Was M80 the first to contain "breathable polymers"? Is M305 a good replacement for M80?
