Well to start off I did not take a lot of before photos. I was focused on getting this thing done as it's a daily driver.
This belongs to my dad. I mentioned to him that this would be something of an early fathers day gift. I was just teasing him.
I was looking for something that is more durable, longer lasting protection and somewhat less maintenance than a sealant since this is his daily driver that sits outside 24/7.
Originally I was not going to compound it but it was a good opportunity to remove the deeper coin op brush marks he put on it 2-3 years ago after I had corrected the paint. This car has hard paint. I gave M205 on a foam cutting disc a shot first and it was pretty good but not what I wanted. I switched over to D300 on the burgundy foam cutting disc and it was better but it was not what I wanted. M101 did a little better on the foam cutting disc but it dusted more than what I wanted to deal with. So I swapped over to the DAMF cutting disc which I know works on this paint with very little passes. So that combo is what I used for a majority of the car. The DAMF cutting disc works exceptionally well on the MT300. 4800 OPM's is still the sweet spot for using them.
It was a little humid here this weekend so I still got compound dust from D300 but it was manageable. That's another reason why I chose to go with D300 over M101. Even the polish I used dusted a bit. The paint was LSP ready after D300 but I wanted to maximize gloss so I still polished. I did do a rinseless wash with D114 prior to prepping the paint for the coating to remove the compound and polishing dust.
I did remove the rear spoiler to correct the trunk underneath it and to give me access to the underside of the spoiler. That was my test area for applying the coating.
It took me roughly 15 hours give or take to get this done.
I started off by using this wash method written by Mike Phillips. It's such a time saver.
Wash: Adams Foam gun + Adams Car Shampoo + 2 bucket
Paint Decon: Ironx, Clay Magic Clay Bar, Nanoskin Fine Grade sponge, D155 Last Touch. The clay bar still worked better.
Compound: D300 + DAMF cutting discs
Polish: Ameridepth + Foam Finishing Discs
Paint Prep: Car Pro Eraser
LSP: Ameriarmour Nano Glass Coating by Americana Car Care
Wheels: Meguiar's D143 Non-Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner
Tires: Meguiar's D143 Non-Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner, Ultimate Black Tire Coating
Exhaust Tips: Meguiar's Fine Cut Metal Polish, Wolfgang Concourse Metal Sealant
Trim: D103 APC+, Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant
This is the only before photo I have lol. It's of the sail panel.
Afterwards out in the sun a day later. Angle of the sun was a little too much for my phone to focus.
One of the roof. Angle of the sun got me here as well.
The rear spoiler. The angle again.
These was taken yesterday after I finished.
I took these this morning. Was a little too sunny.
You can see the reflection of my junk pile on the driver side rear quarter panel.
Mine waiting it's turn. I will more than likely being coating my Camaro as well.
I only have a couple things left to do, which is coating the glass with Detailer's Pro Glass Coating and wheels with Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Wheel Coating. I'll get to those in the next week or so.
The paint coating is very slick. Much more than any sealant I have used. My dad was excited and impressed. He told me that he doesn't want to drive it now lol. We shall see how well the coating holds up.
