  • 2 boats ready for Memorial Day Weekend!

I got a call from a friend of mine earlier this week asking if I could work on his boat asap.. I had done a test spot just over a month ago, but we never really got together to get the big job done. But with Memorial Day this weekend, it was the perfect time to get er done..

Remembering what it was like to detail that 40' RV a while back, I knew I'd be in for quite a battle as this boat had a couple of obvious things in common with that RV.
    #1. Gelcoat.
    #2. It's Huge.

    28' DCB.

I had initially tried a test spot on this gelcoat with a few things I had in my bag over a month ago including D151, Ultimate Compound, and D300 w/DMC5. None of which could even put a slight dent into the oxidation on this boat.. This time around I armed myself with M67. And thanks to a last minute tip from my cat, I learned M67 is DAT and not SMAT. That bit of info was key as I adjusted my technique a bit. I thank my Cat for DAT. Lol.

Paired up with Megs new Foam Cutting Discs. Lets rock!

Here's what I had to deal with on the top dark painted area of the boat.

After M67 and going up to speed 6 for the 1st time ever on my DA we had this..

Further refining with M205 took it even further

Here's what the white paint looked like before:

    After:

This gelcoat was beast! It put up 1 heck of a war and even with cleaning on the fly after each pass, it caked up my foam pads pretty quickly. I probably changed pads about 15-16 times in the 2 days it took me to finish it. Lol.

Ton of work.. I even wiped down the white interior of the boat with D114 to top it off.

Now it's ready for Lake Havasu.

.....And just when I thought it was over, a mutual friend of ours who lives across the street was interested in me polishing his boat too! Lol.

So here we go again.. And in a hurry as this boat's heading out to Lake Havasu to join the other 1 for the holiday. Luckily, this 1 was only 21'.

    Only 21' yay! Lol.

    After:

Alot of work, but it feels good to get this under my belt. Especially for good friends.

Thx for reading. Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone on MOL!

Nice work! I did a similar process on my friend's boat on Monday.

        Thank you!
And I'm still using the HF DA. Which didn't make this task any easier.. I've been wanting to upgrade but my car is taking up alot of my extra money lately.

Oh most definitely. I played hookie from work and made a whole lot more than I would've working my 8hr. shift for the day.. The big boat didn't have a set price going in, but my friend and I have known each other forever and he was very generous. So generous that I'm going to surprise him by washing his other car [his wifes daily driver] that he parked in his driveway while they're away for the holiday weekend.

He asked me to keep an eye on his house if I happen to drive by.. I think coming home to fully washed car would be great wouldn't it?

Catch me by surprise but who wouldn't love that. Any corrections going into that as well?

But as far as an upgrade to my machine, not possible at the moment.. My Caddy has been sitting in my driveway for weeks now. I've already spent over $500 and it's going to take several hundred more to get straightened out.. But oh well.

Nah I'm not going to correct any of that car. It's a dark brown Toyota Camry that rarely gets any TLC. I thought a out hitting it with some Black Wax, but it would probably not get washed for a long time after.. I am going to remove a large gash of transfer on the front bumper that bugs me. That's the only part I'll need my DA for. I'll post some pix of it.

Re: 2 boats ready for Memorial Day Weekend!

This morning I stopped by to check up on my friends house, and perform the surprise car wash on his other car/ his chicks daily driver...

Quik side note: Showing up with all this for a "quik handwash" is hardcore proof the OCD is a sickness that cannot be tamed. lol.
                      Products used:
                      D111 Shampoo Plus
                      D101 Clean wheel wells
                      D143 Cleans hubcaps & tires
                      D170 Dress wheel wells
                      D120 Glass Cleaner
                      Endurance Gel shines the tires

I hadn't had a close look at the car prior to this morning. I couldn't help but chuckle when I walked up and took a look at the grime on this car. Lol.

Impressive bird poop/paint ratio on this hood, wouldn't you say? Lol.

                      Before:

                      After:
We uncover a vehicles reflection underneath all that dirt.

You can see why I honestly thought this car was factory brown paint.

Turns out it's not really brown at all... It had just blended in with all the bird poop & dirt. Looks more like factory pewter now.

Once the wash was done, I wanted to try and clean up this bit of transfer on the bumper.

[this photo of the paint transfer was taken prior to the wash]

I brought some D151 along with a polishing pad, and was able to get mostly all of it off.

Here's the finished surprise clean car, and the view they'll come home to tomorrow.. I hope they notice it. They better!
