  • C2000 Professional Mild Detailing Clay

I've been using this lately and my 1st impression was a big thumbs up. This clay definitely feels a step above when it comes to being able to remove contaminents. It was especially nice to have been able to work on white paint as you literally see spots disappear before your eyes. It left the paint smooth and perfect, ready for a coat of wax just in time to protect it from all this rain we're currently having down here..

1 thing I experienced though, towards the very end of claying [on the vehicles rear hatchback door] I noticed what looked like faint dots that I tried to buff out with my microfiber but wouldn't come out. It was on such a small area that I didn't think too much of it and proceeded to waxing.

A couple of days later I decided to use that same piece of leftover clay in the vertical sides of my Cadillac and then give it a fresh coat of wax.. As soon as I was done I noticed those marks again but this time it finally hit me. This is marring lol.
1st time that's ever happened, but a quik pass with my DA and some M205 on a thin finishing disc got rid of the bit of marring...

This sort of leads me to belive that this clay works outstanding while it's in prime condition, but shouldn't be stretched beyond it's prime. In other words, don't try and be a cheapo and stretch this clay beyond a great job it's already done. I could be wrong, but that's impression I get from it. Overall, I'd say I like the tradeoff.

Who else uses this clay? What are your thoughts on it?

I got another chance to use it with good results yesterday while hanging out with some friends.. I couldn't help but want to try a test spot on this black truck. It's pretty trashed, but D300 w/DMX5 took it from this..

    To this.

Top it off with a bit of M205 on a new foam finishing disc and they were in shock at how good it looked. Lol.

Looks good. I have not had a chance to use this clay bar yet. I have been using the clay magic bar or a nanoskin sponge. Sometimes not enough lubrication can cause marring as well as other factors being soft paint or too much pressure. I will have to give this a try.

Well I kind of doubt it would be lack of claylube since I go through almost a full 32oz. of D114 per vehicle. Plus the paint on my car is among hardest I've encountered. I still have that 1st large piece of clay. I wonder if it'll continue to marr. I might be able to test it on my friends work truck.

Remember that clay is, technically, an abrasive. That means that it can indeed cause some marring of the paint depending on a number of factors - just how aggressive the particular clay bar is, how soft the paint is, and how much or what type of lubricant you're using. Clay bar substitutes - the sponges, towels and pads - also come in varying degrees of aggressiveness and can lead to the same type of issue. Our Red Aggressive Clay (C2100) is so aggressive that we don't recommend using it unless you fully intend to machine polish after use.

@Mike Stoops. You're right about the neverending factors one can find themselves dealing with when it comes to paint correction. I got a chance to test out that same innitial piece of clay on my friends work truck tonight..

It turned out to be quite a fight as this paint was by far the roughest paint I've ever ran my hand across. It was loud as sandpaper even after wiping it clean with D114. Just look at all that baked on grit/bonded contaminents.

The same used clay was able to restore smoothness and remove all of the bonded gunk from the hood.

            After:

And here's how it looked after just 1 application of Ultimate Compound on a foam cutting pad.. Quite a transformation for this worktrucks paint.

I only did half the hood and can't wait to hear his bosses reaction when he sees the difference. Lol.
