The masking tape is a good idea, not totally needed. As far as the pads, the DA system with the drill is pretty easy to use. If you haven't done this before it takes just about all of the guess work out of it. Then you don't worry about hook and loop, pad sizes what pad etc.

If you can wait and afford the MT300, then that would be a great choice (A lot of raves about it and I'm sure it will not disappoint). If not, the GG6, 5" DA backing plate and the new Megs 5" DA foam discs (maybe a few DAMF 5" Cutting Discs as well for the more severe defects) would be a killer combination and can virtually tackle just about anything you throw at it. Good luck with your purchase!

Yes, I actually have the MT300 now on order along with a 5" backing plate, and the Meguiars 5" pads, (cutting, polishing & waxing) I also have in my possesion the DA Power system kit, which includes the 3 pads and drill bit.. I ordered it thru Amazon before deciding to order the MT300 instead.. It was too late to cancel. I'm thinking maybe on just keeping it.

Reason behind my madness is, well i'm going to need the 'three' Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and UW, in my arsenal anyway, so really the DA Power system and its three pads are only going to cost me $50 (well really $40 as it's going to cost me $10 to send it all back for a refund) + I get three of the excellent Meguiars microfibers, worth another $10... So for the sake of $30, wouldn't it be just worth keeping and making use of the smaller 4" DA Power system pads in those tighter spots?

What do you guys think? IS there any point to having the DA Powersystem (remember its only going to cost me $30 to keep) if one already owns the MT300..... Or is it something that even at $30, will just never see the light of day.

Yeah, I would just keep it. It would come in handy for doing smaller spots without having to change backing plate & pad on your DA. i.e have both machines loaded and ready to go during a detailing session.

Thanks for the reply SOLD keeping it ! ..... One last question on pads, (i promise lol) is there any other way to clean them other than throw them in the washing machine ? Like using a dish detergent or something? I just can see the wife kicking off a little if i threw them in along with other laundry. Can i just not wash them by hand with something? and if so, what is that something ?

            Thanks in advance.

Sure you can wash them by hand with dish detergent or liquid laundry detergent or APC.

I spritz mine with a dedicated pad cleaner first, but that's optional - it just helps to get the polish / wax residue out easier.

I do the same. Dish soap is fine but be sure to get all of it out from the pad. Spray a little APC on the pad and let it soak for a bit. Then use your fingers and work it into the pad and rinse under warm water. Repeat until you have most of the residue out.

Doc, you're going to love the new MT300 with our new 5" foam discs. The tool is just so silky smooth and it has gobs of torque. Smart move going with the 5" instead of the 6" setup as well, as it's by far the best configuration with this tool.

As for cleaning the pads, you can definitely clean them in a bucket of water with dishwashing detergent and then rinse thoroughly to ensure all that soap is out of them. You can then dry them by placing them face down on a Grit Guard or some similar rack set up. But throwing them in the washer and dryer along with your microfiber towels really shouldn't pose any issues. My wife has insanely crazy allergies (we've made more trips to the ER due to the onset of anaphylactic shock than I care to remember) but cleaning my detailing pads and towels in the same washer and dryer we use for everything else has never been an issue.

Great thanks, I just wanted to say I'm over the moon with your products and especially the Ultimate Compound... Though I've not rec'd my MT300 yet, i did have the DA Power system kit sitting here at home new in the box, and my hood of my new 2015 Gti, had some bird poop etchings, that were there when i took delivery of my new car... I was trying to hold out til I rec'd my MT300 to tackle them, but well, lets just say I broke down and pulled out the DA power system.... Thing is re these bird stains, I even took it back to VW the weekend i bought the car, and they had their guys use a rotary and whatever compound they had... Maybe it was cos the day was bright and my car is white, but when i got home i noticed they were still all there, albeit a little lighter.... So my concern (being all new to this) was will my MT300 be able to take this out, if the so called pro's failed at their first attempt.... Though the MT300 is being delivered on Thurs, i couldn't hold out.. So fired up the DA Power System for the first time with my Dewalt DW511, and though it took a couple of tries, those bird etchings and there was around 10 of them...... Some real small, some the size of a quarter..... are ALL HISTORY !!!!

So happy.. Those bird etchings were driving me crazy !

Just really happy to get my etchings out and really happy with all the Meguiars products i've been using over the last few weeks....

Top work fellas ! Thanks for all the great products you guys make !

A little tip that i found helpful was i went over and over looking for the slightest imperfection, and drew a circle around it with a dry wall marker... Made life easier, not having to re-find where they all were. Worked out a treat !

The new foam pads worked very good when I tried them out. You will like them. I used APC to clean them out. Here's the review I did for them.

I just put a bit of the compound itself on my finger and use that to mark out any defects.
