  • Pictures from January 31, 2015 Saturday Open Class

Our first class of the year and it was, of course, a resounding success! We filled the training room with a bunch of very enthusiastic car guys, and managed to make a huge improvement on the black Audi that Oliver was kind enough to allow us to use as our demo.

The non metallic paint on the Audi was pretty loaded with swirls and fine scratches.

We cleaned the hood and then clayed it, but since the owner had done a recent clay process on the car it was pretty clean in that regard.

This was the first Saturday class where we used the newly introduced MT300 DA buffer, and it was a big hit! It also did an outstanding job of correcting the defects in this car! We first demonstrated the new thin foam discs, using the DFC5 cutting disc with Ultimate Compound, the DFP5 polishing disc with Ultimate Polish, and finished with DFF5 finishing disc with Ultimate Wax.

Alongside that process we demonstrated the DAMF System, first priming the pad with D300, of course.

The left side was done with foam and the Ultimate Trio, the right side with the DAMF system. A couple of deeper RIDS still need to be addressed, and we did just that once the car was back in the garage and the students got to work on it.

Foam and microfiber fighting it out on the Audi.

A little close attention for a first time user, challenged with removing a RID from the tight convex curve on the leading edge of the hood. Was he successful? Well of course he was!!

The car owner, Oliver, mentioned that a little birdy liked to sit on the side mirrors and make a deposit on the side of the door, leading to some etching.

A quick hit with the DAMF on the MT300 and........

Bye bye etching. And swirls, scratches, and everything else below the surface that was letting down the finish. Hello gloss!

Thanks to everyone for coming out on such a beautiful Saturday to spend time learning in our garage, and a special thank you to Oliver for letting us use his car as a demo.

Now this is a great shot. We already know the DAMF system is a performer but this should inspire more folks to pick up the new foam pads.

    Thanks for sharing.

It felt great being out in the garage and trying some of the new products.

Thanks Mike! I had a pretty sweet time in California! I'm jelous of the beautiful weather there. And thank you for sending me off to a nice detail shop where I could pick up some things. The new DA is pretty sweet and I may have to purchase one when they're available.

Question - may we/I use a couple of photos from the above posts to put on my FB page? Of course I would provide a link back to this forum as well.

              Hi Everyone,
So as you can see we concluded last Saturdays Detailing 101 class, lead by Mr. Mike Stoops with a successful conversion of the hood on a black factory painted, 2011 Audi A4 Premium Plus sedan. We started with a hood that screamed abuse and to quote Mike was

Oliver, thank you so much for taking the time to put this post together - we know how much time it takes to do this and we really appreciate you taking the time to do this. You either took great notes, or you've got one heck of a memory and really paid attention in class because your synopsis of the session is just dead on! Impressive!!

Thank you also for the very kind words, I personally appreciate that quite a lot, and it's nice to hear that you found the class that informative and enjoyable. Truth be told, I rather enjoy doing these classes, and your feedback makes it all the more rewarding for me!

Oh, and that little birdie can't detail very well at all. In fact, he seems to have the whole process backwards!!!
