  • Headlight clear bra vs UV protection products

I am curious what is the consensus.

I have corrected many headlights, however the problem is if the headlights have to be sanded; it means the factory UV protection is gone.

I'm thinking the advertised clear bras that do have UV protection (i don't think xpel does) would be a choice an owner could make after I correct the headlights.

Do any of you guys have experience with say suntek or lamin-x on headlights on a new car or after correction?

I've had x-pel on my brand new headlights for a few years and the lights and film have not turned yellow. You may also want to try and up sell something like opti-lens.

While the protactant spray in our new Perfect Clarity Headlight Restoration Kit is ASTM Certified against yellowing for a full year, and there are other high UV resistant sprays on the market (although they are not cheap!!), there is something to be said for clear film as a headlight protectant. They will take the brunt of the attacks thrown at the lenses, from UV to sand and stones, and they can be replaced fairly easily. You can even get them pre-cut for must headlights, and the flatter the lens the easier the application is. For the consumer, however, the thought of repairing headlights to an extreme level and then applying a $60 or so protective film is either too much trouble, or just plain overkill. While there certainly is a market for high end headlight restoration (David Sylican, a local here in SoCal, does fantastic work using our Unigrit sanding and finishing discs and often has Porsche owners ship their headlights to him for resto!) the consumer space is a bit different. And a whole lot bigger!

As a detailer, though, offering multiple options to your client is always a good idea. A quick headlight clean up, a thorough sanding and refinishing with a quality spray that provides a year of protection, or a sand/polish/clear film package make for some nice pricing options.

A thing i read up on was

        1. When peeling the clear bra it pulls the clear coat from the lens

        2. Cracked lens on cars like c6 corvette and nissan 350Z
