  • Ultimate compound as one-stepper

    Hello,
would it be OK to use UC as one-step correction product? I'm planning to use it on hard German clearcoat (VW, Mercedes, Audi).
I need an easy-to-use one step correction polish, that removes as many defects as possible, but still finishes swirl free. I'll wax in a separate step.
Will be used with rotary polisher.
    Any other suggestions? Thanks!

UC isn't designed for rotary use, but some have used it with good results. Results will vary, the best you can do is to do a test spot. In some cases, UC can finish swirl/haze free, in some cases, a finer, finishing cleaner or cleaner-polish is required. If you get good, haze free finish with UC alone, then you can go straight to wax. Try a small area first, you can establish proper buffing pad, pressure, buffing cycle combinations.

In theory, yes it can. As ffboy points out, while it isn't specifically designed for rotary use we know plenty of people who have used it that way and love it. Perhaps the biggest contributor to a completely swirl free finish here is your skill set with a rotary. If you're highly experienced and very talented with a rotary, then you may well accomplish that task. UC is a direct derivative of M105 which tends to finish with much less rotary swirl than most of its competitors. Obviously the paint is going to play a big role here, too, but it sounds like the paint in question is probably some of the best for this type of application.

There are just far too many variables, however, to say definitively that UC will finish swirl free on a rotary.

Thanks for quick replies. I guess I'll give it a try. It case it doesn't work I can still switch to my DA. It's just I like the rotary better; it corrects faster and I believe it leaves better, crispier finish.
