  • The Meguiars DA Power System with a Cordless Drill for Parking Lot Test Spots?

Is The Meguiars DA Power System powerful enough to remove deeper Swirls? I did a Test Spot for a potential customer in the parking lot of my Gym, while he was working out. It took me 15 minutes and although it looked good and he will likely book a paint correction with me, the result took too long and was not as good as I would expect with my DA Why is the "Return" button not letting me create paragraphs?[IMG][/IMG]

Looks like it did a decent job but as you said a DA would be better. Especially with these defects.

        Looks pretty good to me!

What compound / pad did you use? Perhaps you need a more agressive approach and/or the paint is hard?

But yeah, generally it would be quicker with a DA...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

            Yeah, I understand that....I have a Flex 3401 and a DA

On this occasion there was no power outlet available and I thought the DA Power System using a cordless drill would have been ideal

I am wondering of this system will remove deep swirls.and RIDS

How long would it take to compound and polish a 10"x10" Test Spot w this system on paint similar to that pictured in the OP?

U can always buy a power invertor so then u will have power in situations like that. $50 for a real nice one for ur flex and can drum u up some nice business when not expecting it. Also u want to use a corded drill with the power da system.

Re: The Meguiars DA Power System with a Cordless Drill for Parking Lot Test Spots?

The condition of that paint is absolutely horrific, and we would never expect the DA Power System, especially with a cordless drill, to fully correct this. A big part of the issue here is the cordless drill itself, unless you've got one of those super high end $400 units. Even then, they usually lack the torque needed to really do serious correction. That you even got that far with this combo is quite impressive, actually. You would most likely obtain even more cut with a 3" microfiber pad and some M105 or M101 for doing a test spot demo where electricity is not available.

If you seriously want to "wow" someone in this sort of setting - a parking lot lacking availability of electricity - then a power inverter to run your DA or Flex is actually a really good idea. Not sure we'd recommend one to run off the car battery in order to detail an entire car with a full sized buffer, but for a test spot it would be just about perfect.

That little guy (DA Power System) can get some things done. Indeed! I wouldn't use it for an entire car, but for test spots, sure. I even use it alongside my DA, for the smaller panels. I use same style pads (but smaller!) and m105/m205 just like on the DA.

                    First off, welcome to MOL!!

Secondly..... wow!!! That's an amazing difference, but how did a fairly new Camry come to be so dull as to not have any reflections at all? It almost looks as though it's been wet sanded, but we wouldn't expect the DAPS to remove sanding marks. What's the story on that car?

Thanks, and thanks! - what would you say if I told you that (1) This was my first time polishing a car and (2) even though I knew I shouldn't, I used a cordless drill? (Don't own a corded. I used a Dewalt 20V Max)

Thanks for the kind words. Here's the story as far as I can make out: A friend (lady) bought this car used, about 2 years ago. I did notice it had mismatched paint, so assumed it was re-sprayed at some point. It was to the rear panels and trunk lid. - There were about 4 spots throughout the car where someone tried to do some chip repair. It was bad work! Small globs of paint are left as a result! -- When I did a thorough wash and dry on it, I noticed only the two doors on the passenger side had any real shine. Some body panels had minimal shine. The roof was bad, and the trunk was the worst of it. It didn't appear wet sanded. I ran my bare hand across the trunk lid and gently rubbed back and forth to feel why it looked as it did. My best guess: oxidation. There was white powdery substance left on my hand! No polish and no real pressure was used! So I'm left thinking it was super soft single-stage paint?

Now I'm curious as to using the DAPS to remove sanding marks. I have a spare door I can try it on and report back later (in a different thread if preferred). Just got to make time for that. I have a big paint correction coming up this weekend.
