  • Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86: What Polisher?

I used Solo Cut & Polish Cream #86 on bright-trim by hand and the result was awesome. Can I use a polisher with this product on installed trim and paint?

Then what should I look for in a nice light-weight easy-to-use polisher?

M86 was our first SMAT abrasive compound so it's not a big surprise that it works so well for you on bright trim, even though it was not really designed for that. The original design brief for M86 was for it to be a single liquid, multi pad paint polishing system for body shop use, primarily with a rotary buffer. As you've discovered, it certainly has it's uses even with hand application. It can also be used with a DA buffer if you so desire, with either foam or microfiber pads depending on what kind of cutting ability you need. Our G110v2 DA buffer is a great choice for use with this or any other compound, polish or wax.

From my experience: M86 is like D151 but without protection/wax. It was developed by Meguiar's to work on fresh paint but it performs nicely on factory paint as well. It uses non-diminishing abrasives (super micro abrasive technology - SMAT). I used it with a rotary buffer/ foam cutting pad and with dual action polisher/ foam heavy polishing pad (Flex 3401 with forced rotation) - both times fantastic results. I haven't tried it with a traditional D/A nor Rupes polishers.
