So would it be safe to say you could use this product on anything aluminum that does not have a coating on it? Will the run off stain painted surfaces? The application I have in mind is to clean diamond plate.

It is basically an acid wash for aluminum that is not designed to be shiny or brilliant in appearance. You may not like the end result on diamond plate because of that.

Keep in mind that the bare aluminum pontoons on a pontoon boat are not intended to be really high gloss but rather a dull, flat-ish finish. The problem with that, however, is that it's still bare aluminum so it can get stained and oxidized, and at the water line it can get extra nasty looking. This is basically an acid wash for that type of surface, and as such will return the pontoons to a uniform, flat appearance. Use on other bare aluminum may not result in exactly what you're looking for.
