  • Hello from the Great White North

I have been doing my best to keep my Audi Q5 in pristine condition but have only recently discovered Meguiar's detailing products and am hoping that it will make my task easier. The biggest ongoing task is of course the brake dust on the wheels and I'm looking forward to a product that makes this cleaning job easier or, brake pads of a different material (ceramic?) that will reduce the dust.

I think that this online forum will be a big help to me and I look forward to the various videos, views, experiences, tips and tricks off the forum members that will help me keep my vehicle looking like new for years to come.
Thanks in advance for all your help in the coming months and years.

    Welcome to MOL.

The dreaded brake dust. The option of soap and water is always good. If the wheels are coated in a layer of break dust there are some wheel cleaners that will help. It is always important to pick a wheel cleaner that works for your wheels. Are your wheels factory wheels? Once your wheels are clean you can add a coat of wax on them to make future washing easier. There is also brake dust barrier that is much more durable than a wax.

Good thread on brake dust barrier.

Thanks for the welcome and also for the video thread on the brake dust barrier. I don't recall seeing this tag my supplier but will pay more attention next time I'm there because this could be just the product I'm looking for. I have factory wheels for summer but have some 'custom' wheels for the winter tires. I've tried a wheel wax once before but it was truly a wax and was labour intensive to apply and it was effective for no more than a month (3-4 washings).

Your response to my initial post is just the type of info that I was hoping to find. Thanks again...

Having had both an Audi and BMW in the family fleet at the same time, I feel your pain, as the Germans have a virtual monopoly on serious brake dusting. I can't add much to what Guz has posted, but once you get your wheels cleaned and coated, you'll be happy you found us.

Welcome to MOL! You will learn so much here. Just ask. Someone knows the answer. I have found that is is a pain to wax rims but the last time I did it with UP it seems to be holding up well if I just wash with soap and water. If I wash the car once a week soap and water seems to be enough. If I go too long then I need a little bit more. I bought the Megs Non Acid Wheel and Tire cleaner and that does a great job for my needs.

            welcome!

look at Hydro2 or a sealant on your wheels instead of wax.
