  • Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - October 16, 2014

As our TNOG winds down (we have one session left for the year on October 30th!) things get a bit quiet at time. This time around we had a bit of a blast from the past and a couple of newbies, as well.

This modded Audi A8 is not painted in a matte finish, but rather wrapped in a matte metallic grey. It's a great look, especially wiht the black wheels, but the owner wanted to know how to properly care for this wrap. It's actually quite simple - a proper wash process with either the two bucket method, a rinseless process with D114, or even a full waterless wash with D115/Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere. We used UWWA on this car and it came up looking great. Some added UV protection from the UWWA as well as a safe wash. Win - win!

A respray on the hood of this Honda left some less than clear reflections so we did a quickie 3000 grit DA sanding to knock down some of the fine texture, then Brad buffed out the sanding marks with the DAMF System on a G110v2.

Sanded dull and with fine texture removed.

    Much better!!!

    That's more like it!!

OK, we mentioned a blast from the past at the start of this post. This is Henry's beautiful 1986 Mercedes Benz SL that he purchased in the spring of 2011 and brought down to a TNOG (March 31, 2011 to be precise - go check it out!) to see if we could brighten up the paint a bit. It was badly oxidized and looking really dull and flat back then. We brought it back to life with the DAMF System back then and Henry has been a semi-regular at TNOG ever since. He's obviously leaned an awful lot about keeping a car looking good as these older single stage paints tend to oxidize quickly once they've been refreshed - if you don't stay on top of them. The deep reflections in these two pictures tell us that Henry has indeed learned how to keep older single stage paint looking its best for years to come!
