  • How often can one polish a vehicle with ultimate polish??

    Hi all,
I recently used ultimate polish (by hand) and the results with amazing to be honest! mirror finish of note!

My question is how often can I use it on my car? I believe that UP has no abrasive to minimal abrasive elements? Would it be safe to use it say once a month for example without causing any damage to the paint or clear coat?

    Thanks!

Re: How often can one polish a vehicle with ultimate polish??

Good question, because I'm taking another day off of work soon to prepare my car for another car show! I was thinking about polishing and waxing it again just to make it really pop. The first and last time the car was washed, polished, and waxed was at the end of August. I washed it again at the beginning of the month for another car show. The car actually gets driven very little (maybe 150 miles since August), but I did drive it in the rain last weekend for a couple of miles. So I'm wondering, a good two bucket wash or a good two bucket wash, polish, and wax? I've also got to clean my under hood insulation and vacuum it out.

Ultimate Polish does indeed have some abrasive quality to it, but it is extremely mild in nature. If you're applying it by hand with a very noninvasive applicator (soft foam is best) then you don't need to worry about anything. Feel free to use it every month if you so desire - but honestly, that's probably overkill.

Remember, no matter how aggressive a product may be, you still have a lot of control over how much "Total Cut" you'll get from it. The more aggressively you use a product, the more aggressive it becomes, but the opposite is also true. Hey, I could tap you on the shoulder, using my right hand, just to get your attention. Or I could use that same hand, clench my fist, take a big swing and connect with your jaw with every ounce of power I could muster....... and you'd have me arrested for assault. Same hand, different application process, vastly different result.

Thanks for the speedy responses and info! Love the example . I don't think I would do it as often as once a month too be honest, possibly once every 3 months. It is a lot of work and time consuming by hand, but the end results make it all worth it!
I applied UP with the Meguiars foam applicator and buffed clean with the Meguiars shine towel. Not to much force when applying the polish, just the right amount.
The other thing i need clarity on is i that after I polished the car i took it for a run to show off the new "Shine" murphy's law 30 mins into the trip it starts raining cats and dogs and the shiny black mirror car is now dirty! The next morning I washed the car with Ultimate Wash and Wax to clean it up before heading out. Would this in anyway cancel all the hard work i did the previous day in terms of the polishing with UP? I did not seal with wax after.

        Thanks!

I've heard that the car may actually look better after its first wash with Ultimate Wash and Wax after a polish and wax.

No I never applied wax after the polish. What is the advisable wax to use? And should I polish again before I wax?

              I followed the following process:

1.) Rinsed vehicle to get ride of excess dirt

2.) Used 2 bucket method - Washed vehicle from the top down, rinsing each section as i go

3.) Used a high quality chamois to get excess water off, followed by Megs shine towel

4.) Applied UP with foam applicator as directed and buffed clean with Megs shine towel (All by hand)

That's it really, and too be honest i was blown away by the results! I do however have some scratches which i need to remove (Joys of owing a black car). Some of the light swirl marks are a lot less visible now. As i have read in the forms, i should have possibly washed, clayed, UC, UP then wax. But for now, i am happy.

The simplest thing to do is wash it and then spray wax. That will give you more than enough pop. Another option is that you could use M7 show car glaze after you wash it. It's a pure polish with no abrasives. It offers no protection and it will last a couple weeks. If you want it to last a little longer add a coat of carnauba wax on top of it. If time is critical just spray wax it.

When you get to the show you can use a detail spray to remove light dust. Something like ultimate quik detailer.

Ultimate Wash & Wax has wax in it. So it will leave something behind. You will see the effects of the wax. They won't last long as say a spray wax like ultimate quik wax.

You should definitely wax to protect your hard work as well as giving the car some shine. What wax do you have access to?

Re: How often can one polish a vehicle with ultimate polish??

Thanks Guz for the info, much appreciated!

We have acces to most of the Meguiaras range here in South Africa. So you rekon I should pick up some Spray on Ultimate quick wax, is it less time consuming than usual wax? I would assume I would now first wash the car with the GC shampoo then use the ultimate quick wax spray as opposed to the washing with Ultimate Wash and wax then use the wax spray?

I only used Ultimate Wash & Wax, and recently had to purchased the GC shampoo to prep prior to polishing as my understanding is that you should not use Ultimate Wash & wax prior to UP? But getting back to my point....the results using GC visibly looked better than when compared to the UW&W! Perhaps my eyes are not so good. Or is the GC supposed to heed better results?

                  Thanks again!

U really shouldn't use uw&w before any compounding or polishing. This is what I suggest.
                    1- wash with gc
                    2- polish with m7
                    3- wax with ultimate wax
And then as maintainance between ur next major correction or waxing.
                    1- wash with uw&w
                    2- use ultimate spray wax
And inbetween if any dust gets on car use the UQD. This is just a quick breakdown of course.

Re: How often can one polish a vehicle with ultimate polish??

                      That makes sense Brett, thanks!

As mentioned, I only used UW&W before on the cars as I had never polished the car since I bought it around 7 months ago. However, I bought and used GC prior to using the UP.

The thing is the car stands under a shaded car port during the week, so when it gets to Sat, its pretty damn dirty!. I only drive it on weekends (Sat & Sun). So I always have to wash and prep prior to taking her out! I refuse to drive a dirty sports car, espcially being black. They are high maintenance, but no colour looks better when its gleaming!

So I will follow the following you suggested:
                      1- wash with uw&w
                      2- use ultimate spray wax
And inbetween if any dust gets on car use the UQD

Just 2 more things though, surely If i use wash & Wax, and then use spray wax, is that not like double standard like waxing over wax?. And is it safe to use UQD if the car has dust on, will it not scratch the paint or cause swirls?

                      Thanks as always!

Using uw&w and spray wax is just a booster to the longevity of ur regular wax. And depending on the dust and amount with the UQD. If its just light dust then yes it's ok to use, but for a more dusty car it's recommended to wash. See I wax monthly and wash weekly. Which is not necessary. So it depends on what u want to do. And inbetween my weekly washings I use a UQD pretty much everyday just to keep the dust off. So I go monthly
1- wash with dawn or gc
2- clay again not necessary monthly but it's just me. U can replace or add with m7 before waxing
                        3-wax with ULW.
                        And weekly
                        1- wash with uw&w
                        2- apply UQW
And daily to EOD every other day
                        1- UQD
