  • Can I polish a car in a month? One part every weekend?

    Hello!

I'm new to DA detailing and I haven't the possibility to work on the car every day or even many continuos day, so I was wondering if I can polish the car in a month, working on it every weekend, a plan like this:

    - First weekend I will wash the car and then UC/UP/UW on the hood.
    - Second weekend, wash the car and UC/UP/UW on the boot/lid.
    - Third weekend wash the car and UC/UP/UW on the right doors.
    - Fourth weekend wash the car and UC/UP/UW on the left doors.

Do you think that I will see many differences between the parts done in different time?

    Cheers.

That's fine as long as you complete the process for each section.
    Just don't forget to clay.

Yeah, and you can use a spray wax like the Ult. Quick Wax after the future washes as well to freshen up the previous parts.

I guest just make sure you seal each section with your favorite paint sealant

No it should be fine unless you have terrible wash technique

You have time to wash the car three extra times but you don't have enough time to complete the waxing on the entire car?

If you haven't started yet you may be able to do more than you think you can accomplish in each week. You may then have more time to perfect your work.

That isn't really that odd since, like so many of us, he's simply washing the car every weekend. It's the compound/polish/wax process that adds all the time - time that he apparently can not dedicate in a single stretch. And really, if he intends to use a durable polymer like Ultimate Wax, he's probably better off not waxing the whole car after compounding and polishing just part of it. The next weekend that fresh polymer could actually slow down his compounding process. Now, if he applied a polymer but didn't compound another area for several months, that's a different story as time will have degraded the polymer to a point where it's no longer an issue.

We've even seen DA wetsanding get dramatically slowed down by the presence of a freshly applied polymer. I've had situations in our Advanced Class where a test hood had been sprayed with Ultimate Quik Wax recently and the 1500 finishing disc simply would not cut into the paint because of it. I've had to strip that with mineral spirits to get my demo done!!!

Toki, I know it's been a few months since you posted this and we're wondering how things have worked out for you.

Thats what i did haha! 11 month old and my wife keep me from spending more than a few hours a week on my car. I did one panel every weekend until finally i completed my entire car, then i went over very quickly on the entire car just making a single pass to remove anything really light they may have ocurred over the past weeks, then i sealed the entire car with NXT tech wax. Do what you gotta do!

This is my car after only doing the passeneger side and roof. You can see on the hatch and rear bumper its a bit foggy compared to the rest of the car. Hard to tell in the picture but i drove around with a partially polished car for a couple months haha.
