I'm not too upset about it. This is the only Meguiar's product that has ever failed me. It would be more beneficial for Meguiar's to look into why these are failing. Doesn't help that they are made in China.
I agree with made in china. I just don't get why we can't bring these companies home and finally have some quality in everything we buy. Stupid question but were u exceding the max rpm on the bp? It says on the back in that pic guz posted that 12,000 rpm max. I'm sure u guys used them right, but just an added thought.

I was certainly using mine below that speed. It seems more a screw seating problem than a direct speed issue. I was constantly tightening the backing plate to the screw until I just got sick of it, glued it and haven't had the problem again.
IMO when the screw isn't 100% tight (and you aren't always immediately aware of it when it's occurring while you're buffing) the usual downward pressure is now not directly over the centre of the backing plate and this puts too much pressure on that point. Result: screw pulls out of the backing pad.
Keep in mind also that the smaller the backing plate the higher the level of force a machine is throwing through a smaller surface area. Coupled with the particular movement of a DA machine....
DA's are rated at OPM's (oscillations per minute). Rotarys are RPM's. On my PC I was using it around speed 3-4 with a 3" microfiber cutting disk for spot corrections when I used it.
LOL... I'd like to see any DA that could get close to 12,000 rpm

I own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Get a Lake Country 2 & 7/8ths backing plate. It is the same size as the SB3. I have had the same issue with 2 of the SB3's so i won't use them anymore. I even used Locktight on the 2nd. Beware, even with that, it is just a matter of time until it fails.
Sorry we missed this thread early on, and even more sorry that you've had this issue with the S3BP, KidDetailer. Hopefully by now you've contacted our Customer Care Center and they are replacing this for you. If not, I'm moving this to the Customer Service Hotline section of MOL as that will immediately alert Brian Hann of the issue.

Remember, this hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need therapy.
I have received a new S3BP backing plate from customer support. I'll try the backing plate again...with out the washer this time. I hope the plate doesn't fly off.
