  • What Next after polishing with M205

im not a professional detailer, but I really like the m205. Just curious is there anything else I can do to refine the finish more

I was thinking of polishing m205 with a finishing pad. What do you think?

    Maybe add m7 in there.

Sealant (NXT, M21, UW) or wax (GC or M26) or sealant followed by wax with a 12 hour wait in between applications.

If you want to mess around then try this combo after M205. Sealant, M7, wax.

Your idea sounds good. M205 is about as good as it gets, so there's not much more you can do, other than a second pass with a softer pad.

Maybe UP on a finishing pad? Its even less aggressive and fairly oily.

Yes. M205 on a black W9207 finishing pad for more gloss.

This is what I was going to suggest.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I just finished our new black Mercedes and it looks great. After polishing, I used ultimate liquid wax and was really happy with the results. I waxed it by hand after putting on my polish with my DA and a finishing pad. Ultimate Liquid Wax was very easy to work with. The bottle says to do it one panel at a time with a drying time of 3-5 minutes. I went ahead and waxed the entire car before buffing off because I watched a Meguiars video that said you could wax entire car first. I had originally planned to wait 12 hours and then apply M7 followed by M26 but I returned back to work after my couple days off.

Re: What Next after polishing with M205

Finish polishing can be a quirky thing - some paint likes a really gentle approach and some prefer a bit more aggressive approach. More often than not, however, a quick once over with M205 on a foam finishing pad at slow speed is the ticket. We even know guys who will finish polish with a foam finishing pad on a rotary at speeds as low as 600 rpm to really get the final pop. Remember, though, that M205 uses a SMAT abrasive so it does its thing pretty quickly. If you choose to buff for a very long cycle with it, thinking you're getting the paint more and more shiny, think again - those SMAT abrasives can actually pull enough paint that some residue can build up in the pad and start taking the finish backwards rather than forward. The softer and more delicate the paint, the greater the risk of this happening. On hard paint it's practically a non-issue, but those crazy soft paints are just a pain.

Having said all that, you could always give our new D301 Microfiber Polish a go...... on a foam finishing pad. Yes, you read that right.

Another worthwhile nugget of information to file away for future reference. Michael, you are the man!

Most paints I've encountered can really increase the wet look (as in, pushing to another level of wetness) with a foam finishing pad (Black Meguiars of course ) and a DA set to a very low speed used with almost zero downward pressure. One maybe two passes over a section and stop.
