  • Is it okay to mix meguiar's products?

I'm new to this, I want to do it right and not damage my paint. Im planning on using these products on a "silver" 2008 Jeep Patriot

Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner
    Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    Ultimate Compound
(Not sure if I should polish or not) Deep Crystal Polish
    Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax
And maintain it with Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax

Now my question is, is it okay to mix the gold class line, ultimate line, and the deep crystal Polish? Should I stick to just one product line?

    Thanks in advance

It's fine. All meguiar's products play nice to gether. I would recommend ultimate polish over deep crystal polish. It's a great follow up to ultimate compound. I'm a fan of the ultimate line myself so I'm biased.

What are you trying to acieve for your wax? Long term protection? Looks?

      Using different lines is fine.

What is the paint condition like?

I want both, looks and protection.

I've had the car for about 8 months, ever since i got it, I've only done car wash by hand with no wax or clay baring or anything. Just wash with Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner and dry with a mf drying towel. My paint shines after the wash but it is not "smooth like glass" as it supposed to be, according to what I've read and I want to get it somewhere near that.

            Your proposed process seems fine.

Maybe just do a test spot with the polish and see if you can see a difference (you may not be able to on silver).

Oh, and consider substituting you GCCP wax with Ultimate Wax. It is much more durable and will still look amazing on silver...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: Is it okay to mix meguiar's products?

Ultimate wax is the longest lasting wax offered by Meguiar's. It is a synthetic wax often referred to as a sealant. They can last between 4-6 months. NXT 2.0 is another synthetic that is good. A carnuaba can last between 2-3 months. Seeing as your car is silver I would go with either NXT or ultimate wax. It will give you that glass like appearance. Carnauba's look great on darker colored cars. You could also so what people refer to as topping. Meaning 1 coat of a sealant followed by a coat of carnauba. You also want to wait 12 hours in between coats so that the wax or sealant can bond to the paint.

This is an older thread but it has some good info.

                  I'd just keep it simple:

                  1. Wash -
                  2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
                  3. cleaner/wax - Maybe ColorX or Black Wax
                  4. Wax - Ult. Wax

Thanks for your suggestions and opinions! ☺
Now one more question, is there a wait time in between each process or can I do one right after the other?

With no wax on the car for the 8 months you've owned it, added to the time between when it was built and when you took delivery (anywhere from several days to several months), odds are it has a fair bit of bonded contaminants which are causing it to feel less than totally smooth. This is what the clay bar is for, and you really should do this following your next wash and prior to waxing the car for the first time. Between claying and waxing would be the compounding and/or polishing steps if the paint needs it or you want to do it. We have no doubt at all that the paint is shiny right now, but you might be surprised how much shinier you can get it with some proper compounding and/or polishing.

If the paint is currently as smooth as can be, then you won't benefit from claying after a wash as claying removes all the crud that makes the paint feel rough. If you feel any roughness at all (placing your hand inside a sandwich bag can really enhance the feel of these contaminants) then by all means clay before waxing. Waxing is the last step in the whole process so there is no need to use a quick detail spray immediately after waxing. QD sprays are designed to give lubricity to the surface so that you can safely wipe away light dust and fingerprint smudges, and that should not be the case immediately after waxing. QD sprays are used between washes to keep the car looking like it's just been washed.

A week or so after waxing, when you do wash the car again, it's not a bad idea to use a spray wax on the finish, even during the drying process, just to boost your gloss and protection. It only takes a few minutes to do, and if you do it while drying it's adds zero time to the whole process.

It would be nice to wait 15 minutes or so at least between the cleaner/wax and the regular wax, if you followed that.

I think he meant the compound, polish, wax. But no there is no wait time. As soon as ur done claying, go ahead and do the ultimate compound, then u can move on to the next step ultimate polish, followed by wax. U can do all 3 with no wait time in between. Only time u must wait is if u plan to add a carnauba wax say over a sealant such as the ultimate wax.

With silver I would substitue white wax for black wax.

I could see this if one is under a time constraint. But I would think at least 1 hour if using one of the two new cleaner waxes (white wax and black wax). Although 12 hours would be preferred between white wax and black wax so that it can cure to the paint but that is a question for Michael Stoops. With colorx 10-15 min would be ok. I think I waited around that time the last time I used colorx.

If he meant these steps then yeah no wait time in between unless topping your sealant with a carnauba. This is where the 12 hours would really come into play.

After I wash my car, do I have to dry it completely or can I start using the clay bar and lubricant while it is still wet?

Also, is it okay to do this complete process outdoors under California sun?
