  • What do you guys do with your detailing products in the winter

Me, I bring all my stuff in around november or when my garage starts dropping around 45 degree's. Have to move and rearange things in our kitchen closet floor. Don't really have nearly the stuff I use to have, mainly just my containers of the detailer line products and a couple gallons of soap and last touch along with several bottles of prima but paste wax, clay, some metal polishes and interior dressings and tire gel. Almost like starting from scratch!

So what do you guys do that lives in the colder area's like myself and don't have heated garages do?

The closest I've been was las vegas in 2012 for a convention I had to attend. Did get a couple hours to go walk around, went walking about 3 or 4 miles temp was 106 degree's, wasn't really as bad as I thought, If it was 106 here as high as our humidity is some time's I would have been finding me some shade!

I really would like to go back there but this time to walk around and check everything out! Maybe one day, there's acouple places I would like to go to and California isn't that far away, also several people I'd like to meet. Meguiars would be on the top of my list for sure

I bring my polish, compound, swirl remover, wax, sealant, and gel products inside for the winter. Glass cleaners, QD's and spray wax stay in the garage. It is 14* F outside this morning, and around 35* F in the garage.

Having a semi heated garage, I just leave them in 'their' cabinet (which is located on an inside wall). BUT, I do keep any latex paints in the basement. I think that paint is more temp sensitive than 'our stuff.'

          Just to add...it's 23

With the extreme cold now hitting large portions of the USA it's important to protect your detailing supplies. A hard freeze will destroy virtually all of your polishes, compounds, waxes, sealants, etc so get them to an area you know will be above freezing all the time. If that means in the basement, the kitchen pantry, or your bedroom, so be it.

I relocated all my detailing products to the basement in November, not the pads and towels.

As Michaels comments above, one hard freeze would ruin all your products.

Don't know what happened to the rest of my reply. I think what is missing is: It's 23 below outside but 48 here in the garage. Not warm, but safe.

My garage "probably" stays above freezing. At least "most" of the time. But since I can't guarantee that, I move all my supplies into the laundry room in late fall. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

By the way -9 F here this morning! NICE! Ugh....

Re: What do you guys do with your detailing products in the winter

Had to chuckle a couple of times as I read this discussion. Mr. Stoops' "hard freeze" comment made me think of running outside and putting a cover over the flowers in the yard or quickly picking the tomatoes.

BillE's comment of "23" made me flip to the weatherdotcom page to see what pocket of global warming he was talking about, but I see later he corrected his typo.

Yesterday my wife brought in a bottle of Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere forgotten in the garage.....a solid brick of icy wax. I cut the bottle in half and used it like a chapstick and rubbed down the car...

Like BillE, we've been subzero for days, may hit the elusive zero today. Gonna go outside and work on my tan when it does.

My supplies are in another building safely kept at 55 degrees. That is if the gas meter didn't spin itself to death...

                        David,

We're so far south (in MN) we even say, "Ya all have any extra gas for the snow blower?"
