Just 1 sponge did all the trim on his truck and made such a big difference in the overall appearance of it. It looks so much newer now. No more dull gray everywhere.. With that same sponge I even did most of the trim on their Trailblazer, and it even had enough juice left in it for me to take it under the hood and touch up all the plastic in my engine bay! It's been 2 weeks and still looks great. For $2.99 these sponges Rock!

In the 2nd pic^ you can see the difference from where it was applied [around the turning light] compared to where it wasn't [ bottom right piece of bumper]

It was dark out, and I accidently skipped that bottom part of the bumper.

That still looks great for two weeks later!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

That looks much better. I have been testing out ultimate black on the cowl of my daily. It's been 6 weeks and it still holding up good even after a few washes. Should last a while on that truck as long as you prepped the surface with some thorough cleaning.

Funny thing is, the only thing I used to prep the surface was an old sock! Lol.

I had washed the truck about 4 days prior. I figured the least I could do is get any surface dust off before applying it. My dad was blown away when I showed him how good it looked the next day.

Both of their vehicles have become great guinea pigs for me to gain more experience with my DA. Plus it doesn't get much better than being able to do something nice and unexpected for my folks

So far I've corrected the hood and the whole drivers side of that Tacoma. The hood needed UC, but UP on a White LC pad was all I needed to remove the oxidation from the vertical panels [drivers side]
So currently, 1 side of that truck has perfect reflections while the other side wont even reflect a strong led light. Slowly but surely I'm making that truck look brand new

            Thx Meguiars!

              Re: Ultimate Black Sponges

I just used these recently for the first time and I actually found they outperformed other products on my GMC truck plastic trim and lasted longer as you all have said.

I tested these little sponges against the Meguiars professional silicone free dressing, and it actually looked better and lasted longer than even the silicone free dressing... Wow I was pretty shocked considering its an over the counter pep boys products vs professional line.

So this the same product soaked in the sponge as the bottle, "Ultimate black plastic restorer" right?
Does it matter you guys think when applying this product with the best results to use a microfiber applicator pad vs a foam applicator pad for the liquid (non-sponge) product?

Anyone know which Meguiars liquid product that is soaked into this sponge?

                    Re: Ultimate Black Sponges

Try the sponges before you buy a bottle of this stuff and see how it works for you. I did not and regretted it. While the product does make black plastic trim dark and shiny (if somewhat sticky), it washes off in rain or car wash and leaves TERRIBLE streaks which are difficult to remove. And yes, I applied it sparingly and wiped down afterwards with a dry cloth as recommended.

This stuff is ok for some applications - I use it on my show car/garage queen which never sees rain - but I will not use it anymore on my daily drivers.

I've used Meguiar's products for over 14 years with great results, but this leaves a lot to be desired. Come on 3M, you guys can do better than this!

Maybe it will work for you but try the small sponges before buying a bottle.
I saw it on the Internet...it must be true!

I have never experienced ultimate black having any streaking issues. I do clean the trim with APC or Mothers heavy duty trim cleaner to prep the surface and remove anything that is on there. It allows for ultimate black to bond better and actually I noticed it lasted longer. I also follow up with a light final buff. Doing it this way I have never experienced any issues. The only thing I would like is if Meguiar's increased the durability of the product like the new aerosol version.

Seeing as you are unhappy then call customer service. Or pay it forward in the thread I started. http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...oduct-Giveaway

Also Meguiar's operates as their own separate entity even though 3M is the owner.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience with the product. As with any such product, some materials are more receptive to it than others. We see most surfaces really loving the product, but it almost seems that the worse the condition of the surface, the better the product performs. Also, if you've applied any sort of polymer to the surface previously, it will prevent Ultimate Black from bonding and then it will wash off. But on a properly prepped surface, or an older degraded surface, durability is actually very good. Nonetheless, your experience was your experience and nothing else really matters. If you still have your receipt, by all means please contact Customer Care for a refund. If not, then they should be willing to replace it with another product. Heck, sometimes all they require for a refund is some proof of purchase, and a photo of the product emailed to the guys should be enough. It should come as no real surprise, however, that we actually ask for proof of purchase before issuing refunds.

Now, as for the 3M reference, as The Guz stated 3M has zero to do with this. We may be owned by 3M but every bit of our R&D is done by the same group of guys here in Irvine that we had prior to our relationship with 3M. We share nothing with 3M regarding R&D. Just FYI.
