  • Need help with a weird spot

Hi all, looking for some guidance with a spot that appeared on my Yamaha scooter. I noticed it when I took the cover off after two days of intermittent light rain. The scooter was parked on my patio and the spot may be from where the cover was wet and came in contact with the side cover. It's counter-intuitive to me because water shouldn't cause this, and the scooter had not been run recently so no heat was involved.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions. Thanks very much.

How long after the cover was off until the pic?

Hey guys, any ideas? Since the photo above I've tried ColorX Color Restorer, Ultimate Compound, and Ultimate Quick Wax. The spot looks exactly the same. Crazy right?

Did you apply the above products by hand? Have you tried using any type polish?

Interesting as there was a similar issue on an Acura that had a bra on AG.
Was the cover wet? If so, check out the following.

This is a primary reason why we're not real big fans of long term cover use, or long term vinyl bra use, on any vehicle. Moisture can get trapped under the cover and literally get into the pores of the paint causing anything from the sort of discoloration you see here, to outright paint failure. In the best case scenario you can purge this trapped moisture by letting the vehicle sit out in the sun, fully exposed, for a day or three. In the worst case scenario you can actually cause the paint to lift off the body panel, forcing a repaint. We've seen this happen with a vinyl bra that was left on a factory OEM paint job for a few years, alternating between rain, washings, and extreme SoCal heat. When the bra was removed some of the paint came with it. We've also seen plastic covers used that left a spotting pattern where it came in contact with wet paint.
