Meguiar's will be providing their complete arsenal of resurfacing discs, assorted products and tools along with my experienced training to help you as well as show you the proper techniques for getting the best HLR possible!

This unique Headlight Lens Restoration Clinic and certification workshop will performed by David M. Sylican, Professional Detailer and Headlight Lens Restoration Expert with over 26 years of hands on experience. With hundreds of lenses corrected and years of working with aftermarket coating manufactures, I have decided that it is time to teach my art of HLR to others.

Many of you have followed my Headlight Lens Restoration projects over the years and I appreciate the support and praise you have given me. With that said I have decided to pass this technique along to other master detailer’s and tech’s so that together we can handle this epidemic and create a standard in this industry.

    • Learn how to properly inspect and evaluate headlight lens damage and decay
    • Learn how to identify various defects and initial prep steps
    • Learn the proper types of d/a machines that can be used, electric and pneumatic to accomplish this trade

    • The importance of a dust and dirt free enviroment for quality finish
    • Why it is important to constantly wipe down the lens with a lens dryer and the need to always inspect your work before moving to the next step

    • Learn about various coating system options available, and train on my preferred method

    • Resurface and polish then seal – OTC systems
    • Wipe on coatings
    • Spray on UV cured coatings
    • Spray on and air cured coatings – Our preferred method that cures with air

    • Out of the car bench restoration versus on the car correction
    • Proper masking and vehicle covering techniques
    • How to correctly apply the UV coating, tips and techniques
    • Proper lens drying and curing techniques
    • Post HLR cleanup, quality control and inspection

    • Providing you customer with care tips and hints for longevity

        Aloha Dave,
I personally can't wait to attend this HLR certification class. I've seen the amazing restoral on lens that basically looked unrestorable. This class will provide all the knowledge and tools needed to properly restore any headlights. This will not only increase your knowledge and revenue, but open a new door for a new or existing detailing business. I also see you have the support of Meguiar's. Wow! That is great. Thanks Dave for all you do .

Re: January 12, 2013 - Pro-Level Headlight Lens Restoration and Certification Clinic

A very big thank you to Meguiar's, Michael Stoops and Jason Rose for helping me out and supporting this unique HLR training event. It was held on Saturday as scheduled with a handful of eager learners, from pro's to enthusiasts. One very cool thing about todays technology is that we were also able to host this clinic by webinar to a professional detailer from PA, Ken Allwine of All Shine Detailing.

The one neat thing about my Pro Level HLR clinic is that whether you have experience or not with polycarbonate lenses you will leave with the confidence needed to take this to a whole new level.

So lets begin with an overview of tools and products that are known to be used for this type of work. Methods utilized for this repair can range from jobs done by hand by the DIYer to the more advanced that use electric tools or professional level using pneumatic tools. Products discussed also range from the typical OTC to wipe on, UV cured and air cured coatings.

              Before shots of damaged lenses

Learning to properly identify the damage on the lens and proper masking is priority #1

HLR classes begin and resurfacing is the lesson here.

Chris who had never used a pnuematic d/a took his game from 1-10 in no time at all, confidence was easily achieved as seen in his sanding technique

I am inspecting and showing them the fine points of resurfacing...inspect, inspect and inspect!

Advancing from dry to wet sanding is also taught and learned

More prep and masking in preparation for UV coating application

Taking this finish to the next level and creating the "Perfect Lens Finish" is learned and achieved.

Checking out the progress and comparing the finish

Also discussed was how to properly correct curved lenses vs traditional flat ones, many radical styles of lenses are on the market today.

Ready for jeweling and bringing this UV coating to life for the perfect lens finish.

Students get a first hand feeling with working the coatings

Mike was up next to get some hands on experience with this finer step of HLR and jeweling the coating

This technique learned at my Pro level HLR clinic plus the use of Meguiar's resurfacing products produces a beautiful flawless finish

This HLR Clinic is also available for those not able to make it to my classes with the assistance of a live webinar option via Skype, here Ken from PA is learning right along side with us via the web

Up close and looking like new again!

Drivers side correction is completed by my students only with what they learned on the other lens.

Which presented a find for everyone, fine cracks into the polycarbonate lens. How and why does this occur and will the HLR service eliminate or correct it?

Identifying these defects are important not only for the final product but also in advising your client of the neglected damage that has occured.

Getting Pro level HLR done effectively with the Nanoskin Evergreen Compressor powerhouse, want to know more just ask!

Thank you for viewing this thread on my Pro level HLR clinic, and again a big thank you to Meguiar's for your ongoing support over the years. Should any of you have any questions or maybe are interested in taking one of my clinics either in person or via webnar, please feel free to contact me directly.

Get your "Headlights On" today and increase your profits.....

              Have a great day!

Even though I am 2,600 miles away, I thought this was an excellent training done by Dave at Innovative Detailing. He covered all the different aspects of the procedure as well as different products available. While I didn't get a change to have "hands on", I have had prior experience with headlights. For those that have already done headlights like myself or others that are brand new to headlight restoration, this time spent with Dave is a worth while experience. I also picked up a few tips from Michael Stoops guest appearance.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend getting in on Dave's next training.
