  • Good Week, but Major Week Next Time, MF Wax?

I had a fun week. The heat is very hard for me, so I don't do too much more to my cars in the summer than Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere a couple times a week. It actually keeps them pretty nice to be honest and greatly minimizes how many contaminants accumulate. I used NXT or UW before it got too hot, May.

Therefore, on both of my cars this week, I cleaned (just with QD & UWWA) because they weren't dirty, just light dust as usual.

After the cleaning on both, I clayed almost the entire vehicle of both (just odd spots here or there that were still very smooth I skipped). I used Meguiar's clay from clay kit and Quick Detailer (32 ounce bottle). Claying was fun and made the cars smooth as glass as always. However, again, I was shocked because I didn't get too many contaminants thank goodness, in the clay. A couple years ago, I got tons of red paint from both cars. It was so upsetting. This time, very light contaminants, so that made me feel good I had been keeping them pretty clean.

After the claying, on my silver car I used Pinnacle Souveran Liquid. On the black car after claying, I used Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax. Both came out striking. The dark silver car got not only darker, but even a bit of gold lust look to it. The black car got so infinitely deep with the Souveran paste. Wow. I never wanted to like these products, but they do impress me and are easy to use. The slickness of both is insane, and the depth of the paste on the black car is great.

It's amazing what just clay and good wax can do.

However...I have to face the truth! Sometime now that it is cool, I need to get out the Microfiber correction system especially for my black car.

At least the claying is done so if I get in during the next couple weeks, I can clean and go right to using the Microfiber compound. I want to follow up with the Microfiber wax, but what should I do after that?

Should I just leave the Microfiber Meguiar's Wax a couple weeks and then put on my Souveran produts (or another Meguiar's longer lasting product whatever I feel like that day)? Or should I immediately top the Microfiber wax with a better product like my Souveran favorites or my Meguiar's favorites?

The microfiber wax just scares me because it is oh so affordable, it's almost free it's so cheap. ha-ha. Is it still decent to leave on a couple weeks?

Thanks for listening and thanks for the advice on MF wax.

D301 Microfiber Finishing Wax tends to leave a great looking finish in its own right, but that doesn't mean you can't apply something else over it. If you find that using D300/DMC5 and D301/DMF5 takes you the whole day, or at least takes up all the time you available that day and you can't use another wax for a week or two, no worries. When that week or two has passed and you have the time to apply one of your favorite waxes, just wash and dry the car and go for it. Given your glowing report of the Pinnacle waxes you've used, we're inclined to suggest you go ahead and apply same directly over the D301 either same day, or sometime in the near future. Of course, if you decide that you love the look of D301 all by itself, then so be it.

Thanks Michael. I guess I worry more about how much protection/longevity D301 provides compared to other products. It's so cheap, I wonder how minimal the protection is? Gold Class level or not that even? Just an interesting product since it's purpose goes beyond the protection it is intended to help with the finish too.Nevertheless, today was the day I went to work. . I only have the time/energy/motivation to do polishing on my car about once a year. I will consider stepping it up to twice a year especially with the MF system, but at the same time, at least I get it corrected at some point, so I'm still proud of myself. Last year, my main polishing day came before I received the MF system for the holidays. Therefore, when I used the MF system, it was just a touch up on the horizontal surfaces of my car, but it showed great results.Today I did virtually the entire car with 5 inch MF system with the v2 polisher. I didn't do bumpers as it's hard with the 5 inch pads and I don't want make the paint flop off as I've always been warned about, so I just quickly gave them a light polishing up. Fun day. I only spent about 3.75 hours, but I'm still sore. ha. It's amazing how the MF system lets you make that much progress in just 3.75 hours. It saved me time in that I had clayed so recently and got skip that step. Plus the car was clean so I just used QD and then went at it.The results are great again. The one thing with my small SLK though, there aren't too many wide open areas. Yes, the hood is fairly wide open, roof is fairly wide open, boot lid, but there are so many tight spaces. Next to hood vents, next to spoiler on boot. Then on the doors, again not too big of car, so you quickly have to deal with door handles, mirrors, gas flap right in middle of entire right rear fender, etc. All these tight areas I'm not that good at, so those areas get improved, but not perfect like wide open sections. Wow though, it does look good.Finishing wax is such a dream to use. I only wish it wasn't so cheap because it makes me think of it as very basic product, which is probably an unjust view. I didn't have the energy nor the light left to apply my Pinnacle Souveran over the top of finishing wax, which is unfortunate as now I don't get to see the full result of a day of hard work with one of my favorite waxes on top. Because by the time I wax in a couple weeks, there will probably be light swirls and whatnot. However, I think the finishing wax is still great as it's so fun to use, after all, on a day like this, the bigger difference *IS* the fact that you removed microscopic bits of paint to clear that finish. You probably don't need such a wow factor wax when you get the paint finished out so nice. I did the hood with my Souveran though, so at least it got to see the complete job on the hood, and the hood is an important bit after all! Meguiar's really knocked it out of the park when they invented the MF system. I always found on Mercedes paint, those big yellow polishing pads and M105, it took *LOTS MORE WORK* for not as good of a result. Honestly I used to spend 3 hours just to do the hood and roof, and still not have it come out as nice. MF system changed everything, it should have been on CNN news when this system was invented. It is that big of a deal! Thanks Meguiar's!!

I apologize for above post. I had breaks between paragraphs! I even tried to edit it. The site is responding slowly. Not sure what happened and edits no longer possible. I apologize again, didn't intend for that to be one big post mashed together. Thanks for understanding!

Just to follow up, I did some UQD today and the car didn't feel too slick anymore. Super clean and smooth as glass, but not really any slickness.

Therefore, after UQD, I went ahead and put on a count of Souveran paste. Love the result, though it's not exactly long lasting either it should be good a couple weeks. I guess my big yearly exterior paint polishing detail is complete. It would not be possible with Microfiber system. Thanks Meguiar's!
