Ultimate compounding - when to buff off?

hi there

So I started using UC and really like how it cleans up the paint. But my concern is, (i use a DA with it)

1) when do I stop working it ?
2) the UC catches MF cloths. Means its difficult to wipe off so I'm afraid I marr the paint even more.

Would be lovely if UC came off like how you buff off wax.

There has been so much written about Ultimate Coumpound, just fire up a search for it. Also start here, the Saturday classes use this product every time they meet. (hint: if it's dry when you go to wipe it off with your microfiber, you've worked it to long or the area you're working is too large or you have old dry paint)

1. Make 6-8 section passes in a 2x2 area
2. Make sure you folding you towel in four ways. If its still hard make small little circular motions to take little chunks out for wiping of the product from the paint.

oh btw make sure your to using too much product might be a cause of making it hard to remove.

I did do a search and practically went through pages and pages, but didn't find the droids I was looking for.
I'll try to wipe it off with maybe a brand new MF towel and see how it goes.

You have most likely worked it to long or in too large of an area, or the surface was hot. You can either use a bit more product and wipe soon after covering the area or a spray bottle with some water to go back over the area. The only product that should dry on the paint is wax.

It wasnt dry to the touch or to the point of dusting, in fact, if I wipe, it smears.

In my experience of working UC by hand, if the paint is a bit dry, then it is difficult to remove; whether wet or dry. I would try lightly working the same area with a polish 2-3 times prior to using ultimate compound and then seeing if ultimate compound is easier to remove. I also sometimes add a bit of UP to UC to get a longer woking time.

I second the water suggestion and the MF towel choice is important too. I don't use the cheap MF towels from Costco or BJ's for removing product, but if you do I would several to buff off any product.

Single stage paint? What are you working on?

working on clear coat. I dont really know how else to describe it.
Dry wax comes off easily with MF towels but not so much the UC.
I'll give it another go as I havent done the entire car, just the boot area.
