Product Question: Looking for a polish with no sealant

Wow, I am very surprised by the amount of information that differs on the net, but since I trust Meguiars, and have all their products, this topic has helped.

I have a 03 crown Vic that recently got painted two weeks ago in a garage, with a dual stage. It looks decent, obviously I hate to see it dirty, collecting dust, etc...being that it sits outside while waiting for my 3 months to be up for a polish..... and it still has compound residue everywhere from where he smoothed it out.

The guy who did mine, my best friend, was deployed right after I got home... so he cannot finish the polishing, or tell me, and what not.

MY question as a newbie to the forum:

1) Is this M80 OK to use for this fresh paint? Even though its not been polished or that I have not waited the 30 days to degas?
2) There seems to be swirls a bit already in the finish and compound that I have tried to hand wash out, but could anyone recommend if I could use a wash from you guys, that would not damage the paint while degassing?

Yes, you can use M80 on fresh paint. It's designed to be part of the refinish process and is often used within hours after applying paint (depending on the coating, the drying/curing process, etc...).

You can use any of Meg's wash soaps that don't have a wax component. So,

Yes, #80 is safe.

Washing is safe (not a wash and wax type product), but that wont remove any swirls. If it is just mild swirls, #80 may also help with those.

Any chance of pics of the surface, or more info on what you are working on, tools to use, etc? Not quite sure about where he left you off at.

Thanx everybody! All I can say is....WOW!

What was fascinating about the product was you could feel it working. As you can see in the pic, the results are excellent. Thats pretty neat when the paint reflects as well as the glass.

The term "body shop safe" is usually to indicate which products are safe to use in an environment where painting is done, but it's also a good guide as to what products can be used on recently-applied paint. I've had a number of my cars painted over the years by my late uncle, a pro painter and bodyman. His opinion was to avoid wax for at least 3 months on air-dried paint, half that time on baked paint. However, he said to polish as often as desired to improve the smoothness and gloss beyond the original cut-and-buffed finish. Another thing you may want to consider is claying. Claying acts as a very fine wet-sanding process, removing some of the overspray and/or dust particles and helping to level the finish. Just be sure to use a safe product as your clay lube.

Since you guys are so awesome, I cannot believe how much great information I get here already. Sorry, Max to hijack the thread, but the question was similar and you have helped with a results view. What would you guys recommend while waiting to degass this hand paint job? Can you polish or do anything other than wash it? I will be washing it today with your recommendation, Gold class. The paint properties are 3 coats of PPG shop line clear, 4:1 mix.

Just imagine after the cure time how good it will look after more polishing and a good coat of wax/sealant. Already looking good as it is

Sorry for the slow response. I've been staring at my car for one month now!

I gotta spred the message to all the folks with new paint jobs...this is the way to do it! Trust me, it's a lot of work waiting for the paint to cure. But I believe in the long run it will be well worth it.
