Pros & Cons on Plasti Dip....

I was surfing on YouTube and I stumbled upon this plastidip your car gig.

Of curse they are marketing the product so they make it look like its the next wonder of the world.

I did i light research with our friend Google, and all I got negative on this was a Mercedes Forum

bashing the product as a "cheap" alternative to powder coating. Now I have never personally seen this product

but I wonder if anyone here has, or has even used it on their vehicle. It is said that is does not damage anything,

but then again Marketing Hype can go a long way. So may I please have your insights on this product.

Has anyone here had any negative impact? Or is this really all Pink and Rosy.

Plasti dip is amazing. Easy to apply & totally removal. I've dipped all the chrome on my truck (grill, bumpers) & it is working out awesome.....

It is kind of remarkable, really. You don't need to do much prep work at all before spraying it on almost anything including chrome. No sanding, no scuffing, nothing more usually than just an alcohol wipe down and you're good to go. And when you want to take it off, it literally just peels off like you would expect a rubber coating to do, because that's basically what it is.

I've used it on things as small as the grille badge on my wife's car to something as large as the engine cover on my weekend toy. I know guys who have sprayed a full set of wheels, a hood, etc and no problems at all. It holds up surprisingly well, even when washing the car although I don't think I'd want to run it through a cheap automatic car wash.

It may be regarded as a cheap alternative to powdercoating, but it gives you the chance to be a bit creative and see how something might look if you did powder coat it or paint it, and you can just peel it off and return that part to original without fear of damaging it or spending much money to try out the look.

I used it on my wheels and emblems. Works great, if you don't like it peel it off. I applied it in early July and it has not needed to be touched up.

It's very cool. I've used it as a kind of clear bra on my truck. Probably not as good as the real thing, but its way cheaper and easy to remove and/or replace. It does give the paint a little more matte look, but its not that different. Its much better than one of those black bug guard things.

It's ok. I don't like the texture at all, but it is cool how you can just peel it off.

I don't care for it on wheels, as I don't care a whole lot for a flat black wheels (gloss black looks much better).

I will say, a co-worker of mine did it to his entire G37 via rattle can (instead of the full sprayer kit), and it looks quite uneven and more like someone rattle canned the car with primer than a good looking matte finish.

What I have seen online sure looks neat, though. I would love to play with the matte white or the powder blue...

Use it one time and you will be looking for "anything" to keep using it. It does what they say it will. Great for doing all your wheels for winter driving. Come spring, just find a little area and pull it off. Use it on the rear differential for that "different" look. Use it on brake calipers. In fact a guy on YouTube did his entire car in chrome and after he was done he pulled it all off. Made the video to show how many different ways you can use it. Use it on your car, outside stuff, inside the house, etc. They only make so many colors and then you can order a "kit" to mix and match your own colors. Fantastic stuff.

My dashboard started cracking pretty bad and I've been thinking of what to use to cover it up. Plastidip was one thought. I wonder how many coats it'll require to hide it well.
