I dunno.. I think if it takes effort, you're doing something wrong.

I probably did do something wrong. I just don't know what it is.

my method: (please keep in mind i don't get steaks, ever.)
    take shop towel
apply on squirt of product from 6-9 inches away (number's not important as long as it doesn't get a lot in one place.)
    wipe/buff product

    idk.. works for me..

I guess you need to have a perfectly clean window ( no windex residue or the like ), apply the exact amount of product ( with the proper applicator ), and buff it off in the exact amount of time ( with the proper applicator ). Next time I think I'll try a very light coat of wax. Or just be happy with a good clean window.
I too have found RainX to be painful to work with. I abandoned it years ago...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Well, like i mentioned above, I get a paper towel soaked with the RainX, apply it to the window, working it in pretty well... walk away for 10 minutes or so, then come back with a wet towel and a dry towel. Wipe with the wet one, wipe with the dry one.
