my method: (please keep in mind i don't get steaks, ever.)
take shop towel
apply on squirt of product from 6-9 inches away (number's not important as long as it doesn't get a lot in one place.)
wipe/buff product

I can't say that this stuff is worth the effort. If you don't do everything just right, your going to have issues. I guess you need to have a perfectly clean window ( no windex residue or the like ), apply the exact amount of product ( with the proper applicator ), and buff it off in the exact amount of time ( with the proper applicator ). Next time I think I'll try a very light coat of wax. Or just be happy with a good clean window.

I too have found RainX to be painful to work with. I abandoned it years ago...

Well, like i mentioned above, I get a paper towel soaked with the RainX, apply it to the window, working it in pretty well... walk away for 10 minutes or so, then come back with a wet towel and a dry towel. Wipe with the wet one, wipe with the dry one.
