    Bridgeville< PA All-Chevy Show, Sunday July 29

I'd like to invite any MOL members in the Greater Pittsburgh area to the Steeltown Corvette Club All-Chevy show on July 29, from 9 AM to 3PM. For those interested in participating, it's a judged show, open to Chevrolet cars and trucks of all years. Also included will be a cruise-in area for those desiring not to compete in the judging.
I've won my class the last two years with my '87 El Camino and it's far from pristine--trailered stuff has their own class. As you might assume from the host club, it's a bit Corvette-heavy, but you'll see a wide assortment of tri-fives, musclecars and Chevys of all types and ages. This is the 32nd year for the show, so the club has their act together as far as organization. Location is just off exit 54 of I-79, so it's easily accessed from anywhere in Western PA. Here's the link to the club's site:http://www.steeltownvette.com/STCC_CAR_SHOW_2012.php The $20 entry fee gets you a goodie bag and almost every entrant gets a door prize. If nothing else, you get to see my Camino in person, giving you the opportunity to laugh hysterically at some old fool who spends a bunch of time here trying to learn how to keep the paint from falling off his raggedy old truck.
Check your calendar and post up if you can attend. Look for my Camino and be sure and say hello. I'll be wearing a black AutoGeek Detail Fest t-shirt and will smell like M07 by the time I finish my show prep. Feel free to PM me for more info.

Some how I knew you might smell like M07. Also, some how I don't think your truck is "raggedy old". Old maybe, raggedy not likely.

Thanks for the invitation, look forward to photos of your trophy.

I've seen the truck, and it sure isn't raggedy. He keeps it in pretty damn good condition!

    I hope that's a sound prediction.
Competition's gonna be a lot tougher this year, as the classes have been consolidated and all stock trucks, regardless of year, are in the same class. That means I'll be competing against things like frame-off restorations on 50's trucks. My Camino is an unrestored "survivor", over 100k on the clock, with more than its fair share of appearance defects such as rids, lacquer checking, crazing, road rash etc. But there are no swirls! My only edge is to try and out-score the nicer trucks with better detailing skills. It's truly amazing how many cars show up with beautiful paint work, but full of swirls and hazing due to poor washing and detailing technique.
This year's process was a couple M07 rubs, including an overnight soak in the first rub, followed by M80. The minor hazing from the M80 was removed with Blackfire TPS, then a couple passes with Blackfire Wet Diamond. Saturday night, I'll do a final pass with M26, so it looks its best on Sunday.

Thanks all, for the kind words.

Not bad. I got a 3rd place trophy. Ist and 2nd went to restorations, a '72 El Camino and a '69 Pickup. My "survivor" did finish ahead of other resto'd trucks, likely due to my efforts on details such as engine compartment, wheelwells etc. Here's a snapshot from the day:

While you have me in a bragging mood, I'll mention one other little surprise I received in the mail this week. A photo of my Camino was selected to be in the Rock Auto Parts series of collector magnets that they send with a parts order.

Albeit small, sometimes you get a bit of satisfaction for the long hours you spend in the garage.

You sir should be proud of the way that you have your El Camino looking. A tip of the hat to you for a job well done.

Thanks are definitely due to my underground detail supplies vendor. The addition of Blackfire TPS and BFWD to my tried and true M07, M80, M26 combo had it standing tall.
    Thanks, Kris!
