  • Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - June 28th, 2012

Another fun night - just like every TNOG is!

We were very lucky to have Derek Bemiss of Detail Werks join us last night. Derek is the man who takes care of Barry Meguiar's personal cars, so you know he's, well, amazing. And just an all around great guy!

A couple of the more interesting projects last night were a severely swirled and badly scratched 2000 model year 3 Series BMW and a 2001 Infiniti that had recently had some collision damage repaired that made the 11 year old factory paint look a bit dull and lifeless in comparison.

Here's the hood of the BMW. Not only is it just loaded with swirls and water spots, but there are a lot of really bad straight line scratches that can clearly be seen even through all the swirls. These are deep enough that they can be felt with a fingernail, which is never a good sign.

Even in the garage under the Brinkmann the paint defects are readily apparent.

A couple of passes with the DA Microfiber System and all that's left are the really deep straight line scratches. These are going to require some really aggressive work to fully remove, but the improvement in brightness and clarity with very little work is fairly amazing.

We then, of course, had to let the owner have some fun on his own car. And, this being a TNOG where everyone likes to help one another, Brian gets an additional pointer or two from William.

Derek giving some pointers on proper claying technique.

Sergio gets acquainted with the G110v2, here applying some D301 microfiber finishing wax to his supercharged (yes, the whine was crazy when he drove in) Camaro.

A little wipe down after correction, just to be sure!

This is the paint on the trunk of the 2001 Infiniti. This is actually in focus on the overhead lamp, but the paint is so hazy and dull that's it like a soft focus filter on the camera.

One quick pass with the DA Microfiber Correction System and this is the improvement in clarity of the paint. Focus is exactly the same as the image above, and the paint is not only more reflective and glossy, but also brighter in color overall.

A reflection of the bottle of D300 Correction Compound in the same paint, before correction. Yes, it's technically in focus.

Again, just one quick pass and this is the improvement we got.

And just how happy Chris looks now that he knows he can bring the shine back to the original paint on his wife's car.
