Another Use For D114 - Rinse Free Express Wash

I saw this pic as a tease on Facebook the other day - had no idea you were using D114 in there, or that it was mixed with a fairly standard IPA wipe down solution. Your concentration of D114 in that bottle is like putting 2 ounces in a single gallon of water, which is quite strong and could possibly be strong enough to strip wax - or at least the remnants of wax applied several weeks prior. Given the crazy slickness of D114 when used at 1 oz to 2 gallons of water (recommended dilution for rinseless washing) it's no wonder this is working so well for you as a wipe down mix. You should easily pull almost any sort of residue off the surface, leaving it totally "pure".

Great post Richard! I never liked doing IPA wipe downs and have been looking for something else to use to clean the paint from wax and polishing oils. Thanks Mike for the information too. I can't wait to mix up a batch and give it a try before applying some OC 2.0 on my grill this weekend.

Thank you sir! IPA can be quite grabby sometimes and lower dilution ratios may require more than one pass to clean the surface. The addition of D114 was exactly what I was looking for in terms of slickness and the heavy mixture was cutting through polish with ease. The more I use Rinse Free Express Wash the more I love it!

I tried out the mix yesterday. I used 4 oz of 70% IPA and 1/2 oz of RFEW, the rest water in a 16 oz bottle. That gives me right around 15-17% IPA mix. It seemed to work good before my Opti-Coat application. It wasn't as grabby as my normal mix without the RFEW, seemed to glide over the paint better. I didn't do any testing to test if it left anything behind but it looked and felt like a clean surface to me. One positive side effect is a great smell too.

Guys, just tested this against fresh motor oil on paint and it cut through without issue and left zero residue!

Unless the IPA is necessary to breakdown wax/oils I would just use D114 with water only and not add the IPA. The IPA forms bonds with water, while in the Rinse free express wash is Propylene Glycol which tends to capture water but in a way to retain moisture and increase working time. IPA tends to be volatile and take some water with it during evaporation.
Unless it is absolute necessary, I would not use IPA in this mix. You will likely end up with less working time than without it.

That's the purpose of this mix, to break down oils from polish residue to leave a bare surface. This is NOT a routine wash mix, QD mix, or clay bar lubricant mix.

At a dilution ratio that strong, it most likely is leaving a bare surface.
