First detail of a car other than my own.

I am going to detail a 2012 Acura TL burgandy color tomorrow. This car's finish is horrible considering it's a 2012. The owner is my 73 year old father in law. He doesn't wash his own vehicle and I am doing this as a fathers day gift He goes through the car wash after getting gas each time. The paint has swirls and some scratches from the mechanical car wash. I am going to do a five step process, wash, clay, UC, UP, UW, with my G110V2. My question is, does anybody have experience with correcting new Acura paint? Is the paint hard or relatively easy to correct? I am going to do a test spot, of course. Because this is not my vehicle I am looking for some insight. Thanks!

I don't know about the Acura paint, but I am doing my grandpas truck for fathers day... Just thought it was funny. I wonder how many other people are detailing for fathers day

Just take a cutting pad and some Ultimate Compound to it. It's easy to correct but not as soft as Honda paint. Do a test spot and you'll be fine

A cutting pad is a big no no in my opinion. I'll be using a yellow polishing pad.

We don't recommend using the burgandy cutting pad.

Re: First detail of a car other than my own.

Well I finished my first detail on a car other than my own. The car is a 2012 and I thought that the paint was horrible, turns out it wasn't that bad. There was some minor swirls and a couple deep scratches. The scratches I couldn't correct as they were through to the primer. The project took a total of 9 hours with a one hour break. Here are the photos of today's project.......

I started off with washing the car of course.....

As we can see there was no wax on the car. There was no water beading at all. This made drying the car a bit longer than usual. My father in law said that the dealer never waxed the car, they only washed it.

In this pic you can see some light swirls.....

Here are some more pics. As you can see the paint is not that bad....

After the wash it was time for the next step.......

Here are some pics after the claying process. I had to clay the whole car....

Then I prepped the car for correction....

These are the products I used. I thought about using ultimate wax but I decided to save that for my truck...

Finally after about 9 hours I was finished. I am very happy with the finished product, and so was my father in law. I just hope he doesn't go through a car wash for a while

Knowing how easy it is keep a car clean once you've been through the whole clay, UC, polish and wax process.
you could offer to wash his car once a week. Wouldn't take long.

I would but I live about 1.5 hours from him. Maybe I could detail his car once every 6 months or something. This was a fathers day gift, the next one will come with a small fee
