  • I Need A Little Advice...

    Hello,
I used to spend a lot of time around here but I cant remember any of my login, anyway I'm not a total noob to detailing.

Heres my question(s). I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima in Pebblebeach. I take very good care of the car inside and out. I clay bar a couple of times a year and use only high quality detailing materials, some Meguiars some not.... My problem is swirls. Whats the best way to get rid of light swirling? Most people don't know its there, but I do.

I have a Porter Cable DA polisher so Id like to use that. I'm not 100% sure what product or pad to use. Can some one point me in the right direction??

You would most often want to use a polishing pad, and then either #205 for mild cleaning ability, or Ult. Compound for stronger cleaning.

Cool, thanks.Would the Ultimate Compound possibly be too strong? They are light but Ive tried some 82 without much luck. I only did one pass but it didnt seem to help to much.

One other thing, does the consumer line work as well as the Professional line??

Ultimate Compound won't be too strong - it's most likely exactly what you need. M82 is very, very mild so it's not a big shock that it didn't remove any swirls with a DA. But what is perhaps even more important is your choice of pad, your tool speed, how much pressure you're applying, how slowly you're moving the tool over the paint, and how large your work area is. Read through DA Buffing 101– An Introduction to the G110v2 (and similar) for more info.

For light swirl removal with a DA, the Consumer Line works equally as well as the Pro Line, and in some cases better. Ultimate Compound is derived from M105, with slightly reduced cut - M105 is the single most aggressive liquid we make, and you rarely need that kind of punch for swirl removal. More importantly though, UC won't create anywhere near the amount of dust that M105 can on a DA, and it gives a much longer buffing cycle, too.
