Re: meguiars ultimate paste wax vs gold class wax

For looks, it will be hard to see the difference, especially if the paint has been prepped real well. For looks, Gold Class may be better if in terms of depth and richness, but then ultimate wax also has good darkening effect on paint, plus it also gives crisp reflections.

Since Ultimate Wax also adds depth, darkening effect and crisp reflections, I would go for the Ultimate Wax.

X2 for the Ultimate Paste wax. I don't think you'd notice a difference between the two. Plus Ultimate Wax will last longer than Gold Class, which is a carnuba wax, not a sealent like Ultimate Wax if I'm not mistaken.

I doubt you would be able to tell a difference on a well prepped vehicle. Gold class has some polishing oils in it, whereas ultimate wax does not. Ultimate wax lasts longer -- pick your benefit

This seems like a pretty basic, straightforward question, but it can actually be fairly complex. What's your definition of "best"? Longest lasting? That would be Ultimate. Most protection? That would be Ultimate. Appearance wise? Totally subjective - one person may prefer the look of Gold Class, another prefers Ultimate, and a third can't tell 'em apart. Both are very easy to use, if you use them correctly. And correctly means apply a very thin coat and let it dry fully before removal. If you have to fight to take off either of these, then you've simply used too much.

If you're looking for a wax alone to completely transform the look of your car, you're asking a bit much of a wax. The greatest impact on gloss and depth will be all the prep work you do before waxing. Claying, paint cleaning, polishing - do these right and the car will look better than it ever has, and you still haven't waxed it yet!

In my opinion, the Gold Class will the vehicle more depth, especially on darker colors. It's the look I've always preferred, that is several coats of carnauba! I now drive a silver car but I don't have the time to detail like I use to so I spent time with Ultimate Polish, (tons of time), then topped it with Ultimate Liquid Wax for longivity. The result was great, as if I topped with a coat of carnauba. Surface prep is key.

Re: meguiars ultimate paste wax vs gold class wax

For durability, no doubt Ultimate Wax wins vs. Gold Class, now the difference will be very minimal but you may notice a slight depth advantage and warmth from gold class. It depends on what kind of look you want. If you want more depth from your charcoal grey car, you may want to move towards gold class. If you want almost the same depth but with sharper, crisper reflections plus durability then Ultimate wax is the one for you.

Again as always, prep is everything. A properly prepped car will be shiny, slick, have depth a brightness even without the wax. Wax does add more shine, but a lot lies in preparation.

I have a charcoal colour car TSX and I prefer the Gold class wax. At certain angles when the sun is about to set the charcoal colour looks almost black. I like the long lasting of the ultimate wax but it makes the car shiny without enough depth as the gold class wax. I'll happy to apply the Gold class wax every 4-6 weeks.

Re: meguiars ultimate paste wax vs gold class wax

It looks like on dark colors like charcoal gray or something of that shade, gold class is the pick if one is after looks/depth, richness and don't mind waxing more frequently. Unless one already has ultimate wax, even better. Just use that combo to get the best of both worlds. Waxing is enjoyable anyway, and with the arrival of the Gold Class quick detailer and spray wax, it can only help extend the wax protection of the gold class wax.

Here is my Honda Accord Euro / Acura TSX in Charcoal, next to a silver Lexus SC430 just to show some contrast. Notice that the charcoal colour looks almost black, rather than grey. The car has been gold class wax about 3-4 weeks ago.

Gold Class Liquid (1st version) topped with 26. Car is garaged. Even after a light rain, all I needed to do the next day is use a duster and some quik detailer on the back of the trunk and behind the wheels.

Ok I took the car out of the garage to show the Charcoal looks like in the sun. Like I said at certain angles the car appears almost black in colour when using Gold Class wax. These shot were taken on an overcast day.

After seeing the pics, I may switch to Ultimate wax since it also adds depth even if not in the same level as Gold Class. This is to add a certain brightness and crisp reflections on the paint, and allow more of the flake to come out. Nice car, BTW

I may even use NXT 2.0 on that paint.
