I have a F150 and the last detail took about 5 hours.

    Wash
    Clay
    UP
    NXT 2.0, one coat

This took about 5 hours with a G110V2 DA. If I used UC this easily could have been an 8 hour day. It also depends on the amount of correction that's needed. I have another car that has many paint defects. I haven't gotten around to detailing it because I know it's going to take at least 2 days.

My Avalanche sat in the garage for 2 or 3 weeks all taped up. I was removing all the swirls. It took forever with school and work keeping me busy. Otherwise, it would have easily been an all day job.

hi there, i can ask some question?
my car has already paint protection coating.. is it save for me to use, for example, Ultimate Compound or Ultimate Polish on my car paint?
some people told me, that UC & UP will damage my paint protection..

            thanks for advice

              Re: Longest Detail?

I did a mid 60s model e type convertible for a guy that took me about 5 days working 6-9 hours a day. it was a garage find that was 100% all original but man it was a mess. it was just parked and left for god knows how long. there was a recipt in the glove box that said 1975 so it was used at least till 75 before it was parked. the entire car had to be wet sanded, a few minor touchups, and the convertible window had to be refreshed. the engine bay was a nightmare and i spent about 4 of those hours putting new plug wires, and vacuum hoses on it (after the mechanic that got it running hacked it all up.) the absolute worst part was that the man was insistent that i didnt use any machine on the paint. (which i believe was original) .. but he paid me by the hour and got what he wanted. would of still been a 3 day job even with the DA though. i should add that i was about 16 and my grandad was up my arse the entire time LOL. didnt help matters.

This is a bit off topic for this discussion, but we'll answer for you anyway. If you have a paint protection coating like our M188 Deep Crystal Coating, Opti-Coat, CQuartz or similar then you want to stay away from Ultimate Compound or similar products as they will diminish that coating. Ultimate Polish is very fine so it should be safe to use with a very light application. If you're seeing swirls and other defects in the coating, however, then you'll need a compound to remove those defects (and the coating along with them) and then reapply that coating if you so desire.

                  Re: Longest Detail?

                  Back on topic....................

When I bought my Crossfire it had sat on dealer lots for a couple of years (a 2005 model year car that I purchased new in 2007) and the paint was in desperate need of help. I put almost 20 hours into the paint alone to bring it to the level I wanted. That's a lot of time for a 2 seater with no roof!!

We did a wet sand/buff here in Meguiar's Garage on our COO's 2009 BMW M3 Coupe, black of course, and put a total of 120 man hours into it. We had a heck of a team assembled including guys like Jason Rose, Kevin Brown, Derek Bemiss and our own Mike Pennington, Ash Erickson and myself, and discovered that there had been a problem with the paint at the factory - it didn't like being sanded so it didn't respond well to compounding after the fact. Yeah, that was fun few days!

I imagine M188 is not availible in our market??

                      Re: Longest Detail?

Just reviving this thread as I have just spent 12 hours on detailing my boot lid alone (trunk lid for those outside Australia). Also spent 5 hours on a small rear quarter panel!!!
This is using a DA with UC on a yellow 4" Meg pad which did a great job of removing all the swirl marks but left some deep scratches which I followed up with Menzerna FG4000. Still have some scratches so have just ordered some microfiber cutting pads which hopefully will cut down the time otherwise I figure it will take me another 60 hours or so to finish the job!
I had a 'crash repairer' work on my car - he obviously used a rotary polisher with presumably a dirty woollen pad. Then used a speed glaze to fill all the swirls/scratches and the car looked pretty good for about 3 washes but that is another story.

The latest detail job I did was on Saturday and it took about 3 1/2 hours to do. Last time this vehicle was done was last year before winter.

                          Re: Longest Detail?

About 10 hours on a Dodge Ram Quad Cab and I didn't even do any correction, lol. Sometime I think take way too long on stuff most people will never see done. It actually bothers me when I spend a lot of time on someone's car and they come to pick it up, says looks nice, pays me then leaves. I want them to LOOK at it, see all the stuff that's been done. To this day most probably don't really understand the stuff we, as detailers, do.

Now I love the ones that come and say WOW, that thing just stands out, or hey you got that scuff out or that one out or I forgot I had this or that and I got stuff out they never asked for. I still really need to find more time saving things to do without sacrificing the quality of my work.

Oh and I'll let you know about that "how long of a detail" this coming weekend when I do a swirl removal on a 98 GMC Yukon. I only have 1 day to do it, so we'll just see how great the DA MF system really is!! Oh also do a full detail on top of the extra swirl removal for this person. Normally something this big will take 8-10 hours, WITHOUT correction. Oh man I'm going be spent!! lol

Spent 2hrs in the morning doing the interior.

Did the exterior and basically did a search and destroy on ths scratches.

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
