Does technique matter on these?

Curious,

When using UC and UP, would one normally go in a circular motion, or in a horizontal motion? Just don't want to create swirls or anything.

No, you just want to work evenly over the area with a good applicator, just go with what fits the panel best.

Some circular will generally be wanted for evening things out, but many people can add extra pressure using back and forth. So that can help if needed.

Since neither of these products will scratch the paint, as long as you're using an applicator that won't scratch it really doesn't matter what direction you apply these products. Now, on super delicate paint we have seen cases where the user applied a lot of pressure with their fingertips pressing through a foam applicator and some noticeable marring occurred, but that is more a function of an extremely delicate paint and poor application technique rather than the fault of the product. That same product, on the same paint, but applied with a different technique, did not cause marring. So, is technique important with these? You betcha! Technique is always important; in fact, it's critical. And that's true regardless of product being used, tool used to apply it, etc.

You could use a triangular motion if you wish. UC I find works better when you apply extra pressure
