Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - March 29th, 2012

Another TNOG, another full house, another great evening!

We started with a 3 Series wagon, doing a test spot with Ultimate Compound and a W8207 pad. It did a nice job but would require a second full pass to remove everything. We wanted to see how the DA Microfiber System would perform in comparison.

We decided on the DAMF System for this car and after showing the owner the proper process, we turned him loose on the hood.

How's this for a well cared for 10 year old truck!!

Tommy brought his IS-F down and it was in need of some claying and other correction. As it turns out, he had done some spray painting in his garage..... can you guess what color spray paint he used? Yes, that's the overspray he removed from the hood with the clay bar.

Yes, that's a Porter Cable 7424XP you see there, and that's because it's the tool that Johnson, the car owner, recently purchased and he wanted some guidance on using it for the first time. He also purchased the DAMF System, so that's what we're showing him how to use.

Keep the pressure up, and keep that pad flat against the paint!!!!

Andy looks a bit concerned, but everything turned out very well in the end!

Doing a little pre-buffing inspection on the IS-F

Tommy had failed to remove swirls from his car when using a PC with Ultimate Compound and our foam cutting pad, so we wanted to see if it was a technique issue or just stubborn paint. Here we're using the G110v2, Ultimate Compound and the W8207 polishing pad. The pad is actually less aggressive that the one Tommy had struggled with, but the G110v2 has noticeably more power than the PC 7424XP, and Tommy immediately noticed the difference.

As it turns out, we managed to clean up all the swirls in the paint using the above products/process. Further discussion with Tommy showed that he wasn't using enough pressure against the paint, he was working too large an area, and he was moving the buffer too quickly over the paint. Process before product is a great expression that really sums up the situation. We actually stepped down to a less aggressive pad, but completely altered the way Tommy was doing things, and got instant (and awesome) results!

Meanwhile...... Andy still looks concerned while watching Johnson work on his car.

Back with Tommy and the IS-F, we give the paint a little M205 love to really bring out the color. Tommy then finished the hood with this and topped it off with Ultimate Wax.

Here we're showing the proper technique for applying the DA Finishing Wax after Johnson finished correcting the hood on his Nissan. Light pressure and fairly rapid movement over the paint is all that's needed to apply the Finishing Wax.

After a quick wipe off, this is the final result. Two steps - job done.

A nice reflection in the hood of the IS-F when it was finished.

Brian's AMG exhibited pretty hard paint but it was no match for the DAMF System, which just loved this car. Double teaming the hood always makes the job go faster!

Paul gets acquainted with the new Flex rotary buffer.

Once again, just a great night all around. Thanks to everyone who came by and we hope to see more of you at future events!
