Pictures from March 3, 2012 - Saturday Open Class

Saturday, March 3rd was another fantastic class down at the Meguiar's headquarters with just a small group of seriously enthusiastic car guys. We domes first on an M3 in decent shape... but definitely had some swirls and scratches that were not very deep...

We started with a short clay demo...

Once the hood was clayed, we taped off several sections to allow for a hand demo and a DA demo, worked in some Ultimate Polish and finished off the surface with Ultimate Paste Wax.

    The results were tremendous!

We then turned our attention to a rental car that one participant drove in. It was a Ford Explorer and... well... the pictures speak for themselves!

Big thanks to Tracy for sharing some of his expertise and bringing a terrific demo car! Also, thanks to Jojo for trusting us with his M3

Wow that's an amazing 50/50 shot from the Explorer. Did you guys leave it like that? I'm dying to see the rental car company's reaction when they see the paint like that LOL!

Well From the class I went straight to LAX to go back to Vancouver. The rental car is kind of a funny but sad eye opening storey.
I dropped off the car, it was under shade so you really couldn't notice the paint correction or did they seem to look or care.
I had lots of time before my flight so I unloaded my bags and stood over by the bus and waited to see if they will react.
Well they never even looked at the car, what they did do is take it over to the car wash station right away
This is the sad part, they hosed it down very lightly and them began to wipe it down, the guy swiping the car dropped the old towel twice and picked it up and continued wiping the car
So i just kind of wondered over to see how bad the towel was, the hood looked like we never even tried to correct the paint you could not tell the difference any more.
    Very very sad.
Thanks you Joseph, your class was very well done, I learned a lot and am very happy I finally made it to the class. Im looking forward to the advance class now.
It was nice to here about the products and to get more insite into them, Ultimate compound is a great product. to be even able to come close to correcting that rental car was a amazing demo of the product.
Thank-you Meguiars for putting on these types of classes, it takes a lot of time and dedication and I for one very much appreciate the work that you put into them
    Thank-you

We actually did a test spot with UC which was definitely improving the surface, but not correcting the paint to the level we hoped to see. A single pass with M105 Ultra Cut Compound left the paint flawless... then we finished it off with Ultimate Paste Wax.

Definately a huge improvment there. Nice job!
There does, however, appear to be obvious "holograms" on both cars when in direct sunlight, indicitating micro scratches are still present (usually the result of using a rotary buffer).
In my opinion, when the paint is 100% scratch free the reflection of the sun should be crystal clear. Still a brilliant job though compared to how it was.
    Well done.

It's really important to understand that this is a basic introductory class where the vast majority of students have never even seen a DA buffer, and most think their cars look pretty good when they arrive, regardless of how much help the finish needs. In the time allotted and with the students mostly being complete novices, we don't expect to turn them into concours level detailers in one morning.
