  • Inca Red Mercedes 107 SL, Full detail

Hi all, we had a customer bring his car to us for some mechanical/service work and while it was with us he also decided to have it detailed (well he had driven from France!!!)

The car is a 280SL in rare Inca Red.

I didn't have my camera with me the day I started so no before pics unfortunately. Ther car was quite dirty from the trip so it was washed, the wheels cleaned and the engine bay detailed.

All products used are Autosmart unless stated otherwise.

    Autowash
    Acive XL (traffic film remover)
    Alishine (wheel acid)
    Highstyle (rubber trim dressing)
    Finish (general purpose dressing)
Brisk low foam (for use in a wet vac)
    Glass cleaner
    Carnauba Gold
    Megs UC
    Megs 83
    Claybar with Re-Glaze lube
    Peek metal polish

After washing and drying the car I fully clayed the bodywork and revealed the true condition of the paint, 'Swirl City!!'

    A closer look.

I took to the paint with my G220 and tried #83 which hardly touched the defects on the hood and trunk but did correct on the sides of the car. U/C was bought into play and on some areas it needed going over twice.

    Some 50/50 shots

    The hood.

    The front wing/fender.

The seats were cleaned with a diluted TFR and soft brush. Apologies for the poor pics, still getting to grips with my new camera. the bottom half has been cleaned!

    Here is a during photo.

    And the finished article (phew!!)

The interior. All carpets were wet vacced and the dashboard treated with silicone dressing.

    [IMG][/IMG]

The engine room, 2.8 litre straight 6.

    [IMG][/IMG]

And the final shots complete with the hardtop.

    Many thanks

Great work, Mark! That beauty was a bit of a mess before you started work on her, and she came up looking gorgeous at the end. Gotta love how these old MB interiors can still look like new so many years later!

Many thanks Michael, I know what you mean about the interiors! That car has done 146,000km, it will be more now as he left us to drive back to France!

I can't say if its the original interior or not but my car is the silver E-class next to it and that has done 114,000 miles and the cloth trim looks like new as well.

      Thanks

Nice work on a classic and rare Merc. What type of mechanical work was done? Was the your shop, the SL shop, mention in a Mercedes Enthusiast magazine article on SLs.

Hi Teak, thanks for the kind words. I believe it was i for general service work and fully undersealed. The economy gauge on the dash was also fixed. I can double check what else was done.

It is The SL Shop. Its not my company, sadly!! The E class was the bosses car which is why it's sign written.

We do try to get coverage in as many Merc mags as possible, every little helps!!

          Thanks
