Hot Rims Brake Dust Barrier vs. Armorall Wheel Protectant

right now i would have to give it to the AA product. on those wheels just a few spots that look like dirty water running off wheels. whereas the Megs wheels are completely covered with brake dust. now Marc08EX stated the Megs product is not suppose to repel the brake dust so i guess we have to wait and see which one will be easier to clean. i will admit if the Megs product did repel like the AA is doing is would really be a good thing. if a customer has used the AA product and they are told the Megs product is better and it is used but a week later their wheels are covered in brake dust they wont be happy. even if it was explained to them that the Megs product is made to keep brake dust from embedding into the wheel to make it easier to clean all they are gonna see is the AA product "keeping" the wheels cleaner longer. just my .02

I'd have to agree with this. I'm not ready to concede victory just yet as ease of cleaning does have value.

Looks like the Armor All works in repelling the brake dust really well. The Meguiar's Brake dust barrier doesn't repel the brake dust at all but I know it wasn't designed to work that way.

A couple of things here - what are missing here? You guys prefer the look of the top pic over the bottom one????? No, neither wheel is spotless, that's for sure, but the top picture looks like someone tried to clean the wheel but it wouldn't come completely clean. Yes, we know that is NOT what happened here, but that certainly isn't "pretty", is it???

@TJPark, when it comes time clean these wheels we'd like to see what happens when all you use is a blast from the hose and nothing more. Then you might try using a wheel cleaner on both products to see which one holds up and which one needs to be reapplied.

The top wheel looks silver (except those nasty dirty spots) as opposed to the bottom picture where the whole wheel is uniformly covered with brake dust. For me, I'd rather have a silver wheel with some few dirt spots as opposed to having a black wheel because of brake dust.

@TJPark, when it comes time clean these wheels we'd like to see what happens when all you use is a blast from the hose and nothing more. Then you might try using a wheel cleaner on both products to see which one holds up and which one needs to be reapplied.

Since I have been using the Armorall for over a year now, I can say that simply spraying the rim with water does nothing, and that a wheel cleaner and brush is needed to clean the wheel, and that the product needs to be reapplied after every washing. I can't say how the Megs BDB behaves because I haven't washed it yet. Once I do wash it I will make sure to highlight the results.

Also, the streaks of dust on the AA can be easily removed with a dry MF towel, harder to get at the barrels unless you have a spoke tool or daytona speed master brush, but you don't need water or chemicals to wipe down the wheel.

i also agree that neither wheel is clean. which is why i said the AA wheel looks like there is dirty water spots on it. all i was saying is non detalers are gonna see which one stays cleaner in between washes. i also said it will depend on how easy it is to clean them

I still prefer the look of the wheel with Meguiars BDB on it.

...And I'm keenly awaiting the results after washing to see how each product behaves.
