  • Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere - Scent on car paint (Quick Review)

I'm not new to rinseless/ waterless car wash method at all. I have used products by Croftgate, DP Detailer's Pride and Optimum Technologies for a few years now. I'm also familiar with Ultimate Wash & Wax. It's a great car wash, gloss restorer and wax booster. Let's take a look at its waterless version: Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere.

    From product label:

No scratch formula safely washes & waxes 3-4 cars without water.
No need for a hose & bucket ! Simply mist & wipe your way to a clean, freshly washed and waxed surface in just minutes !

Convenient - Wash Anywhere ! No hose, bucket or rinsing required !
Fast - Wash and wax at the same time !
Advanced Chemistry -Water spot-free formula safely cleans road grime without scratching.
Safe - The high-lubricity formula protects the surface against scratching as it cleans.
Protection - Advanced polymer chemistry leaves behind a glossy, synthetic wax barrier that lasts weeks !
Multi-Surface - Use on all glossy paints & clear coat finishes, plus glass, chrome, polished metals and plastic trim (NOT for use on flat, matte nor satin finishes).

    Size: 768ml, 26 fl oz.

For testing purposes I actually transferred the liquid into Chemical Resistance Sprayer (48-oz. one). That way I really feel that I get very uniform surface coverage and save my fingers from constant trigger pressing. The air temperature was 45*F with low humidity level. I used Meguiar's Supreme Shine microfiber towels: separate one for product spreading/ surface cleaning and drying.

Ultimate Wash & Wax has very good cleaning ability. The vehicle was covered in more than just light dust. Definitely using one of quick detailers on that paint would be very risky to inflict swirls or scratches. After covering each panel (or half panel on larger surfaces, like hood and roof) spreading was very easy and I could see a lot of dirt picked up and trapped on microfiber (folded twice). Drying was also quite easy and it required about 3-4 passes with another towel. Each panel/ half panel was getting a fresh part of microfiber towel - spreading/ cleaning and drying.

The paint surface was left very clean, clear and glossy. It was just like using a regular Ultimate Wash & Wax car wash in a bucket but all done without even one ounce of water. This waterless approach made me feel definitely safe. I wouldn't have used any quick detailer on paint in that shape. I also applied it to exterior plastic trim and it left it nice and clean.

Using Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere won't leave car paint in the same shape like traditional/ rinseless washing and spraying one of quik waxes but the results are very closed. Of course if more gloss/ protection/ wax is needed applying a sprayable quik wax on top of UW&W Anywhere would be an option as well.

Another nice aspect of waterless method: pleasant scent stays on car paint (okay, it's not that crazy intense). To me it's like tropical/ coconut/ bubble gum kind. It stays actually for hours even when vehicle is kept outside.

I ended up using just four microfiber towels: two for spreading/ cleaning and two for drying. I used a separate towel on glass surfaces.

Pics after quick waterless car wash:

I'm very glad Meguiar's made waterless car wash method available to us with such great product as Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere. I was guilty myself of pushing quick detailers much above their ability of car cleaning before. With this product I feel very safe. Another great use of waterless approach would be while on the go - car trips. Quick stop at one of rest areas can be turned into a quick car wash.

The new waterless Meguiar's Hero combo:

At the end some more about Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner - amazing product. I'm still very impresssed how clear glass becomes after its use. I did another night driving last night and my windshield looked absolutely stunning:

Nicely done, Greg. Looks great. How do you feel about the 3-4 cars per bottle? Possible? Yes I know, dirt dependent.

So you're a big fan huh? I'm also curious as to how drenched you spray the panel?

Thanks for the great review Greg. I need to give this a try as I will be doing more rinseless/waterless washes so this review gives me a better idea.

Great review, Greg, thanks for writing this up. You used UWWA exactly as you should, swapping between initial wipe towel and a follow up towel. In fact, we would suggest that as your initial wipe towel becomes saturated and dirty, you toss it into the laundry hamper and move the follow up towel to initial wipe duty and employ a fresh towel as your new follow up. Continue moving towels along the "food chain", so to speak, as you work around the car. Depending on how dirty the car is you may find you need 3, 4, maybe 6 towels. But if you live in an area where you don't have access to a hose and bucket, or in a northern climate where you have to shut off your outside water to keep pipes from freezing, this product is a fantastic alternative to giving in to the brushes of an automatic car wash.

                Thank you, Guys !!!

UWWA is really great. It's very close to rinseless approach in effectiveness and safety.

I went pretty generous with it so I ended up using slightly more than 25% of it, part of it because chemical resistance pressure washer was used and I had to adjust the nozzle properly at the beginning:

I think Meguiar's estimate 3-4 cars per bottle is right on target and this gives us just couple dollars per car wash cost. Well worth it.

If the same, or very similar technology, was used in Meguiar's Rinseless Car Wash then Optimum ONR will face very serious competition.

The reviews for UWWA seem to be very positive, I'm eager to give this a try.

Re: Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere - Scent on car paint (Quick Review)

I am really skeptical about using an waterless solution on my cars. I know they cannot be used on really dirty cars, so it would have been really helpful if I had a before and after picture. The end results look fantastic, but what condition was it in to begin with. Maybe it is just good for road dust, etc. I just would be really reluctant in using this. We have a lot of salt up here in the North, and I pressured washed my car the other day, (it got above freezing) it was still way to dirty to even consider a waterless product in my opinion.

Michael says "In fact, we would suggest that as your initial wipe towel becomes saturated and dirty, you toss it into the laundry hamper" Well what about the last few moments you are dragging a dirty towel across your paint, before tossing in the laundry?? The only thing that goes on my car(s) is a freshly rinsed lamb mitt and a pat dry with a clean absorber. Until it gets warm enough to drag out the two buckets, I would prefer the car be dirty than risk scratching it.

I absolutely understand your concerns. Rinseless and waterless approach have their limits (road salt would be a serious concern).

These are the key ingredients when using waterless method:

                      - surface has to be uniformly covered by product,
                      - product softens dirt layer and makes it easy for microfiber towel to pick up (it does it very quickly, there's no need to let it sit down),
                      - don't let the product dry on surface, if it happens respray that area again,
                      - exposing fresh microfiber towel side is needed frequently,
                      - good quality microfiber is needed (Meguiar's Supreme Shine is perfect for dirt trapping),
                      - seperate towel is needed for spreading and drying,
                      - seperate towel is needed for lower parts, which always become the dirtiest (I clean lower parts last),
                      - I would estimate 4 towels as minimum and it could go up even to 8-12 towels per vehicle if needed.

Generally waterless car wash method would be between quick detailers and water bucket(s). It can still safely remove normal road grime without any risk (if used as recommended). It took me a long time to get convienced as well but now I'm a believer.

Thanks greg303 for the information. The stuff has to be good because there are so many people who use it, and they seem to get good (and scratch free) results. I am not sure the product was developed for the junk they put on the road here.....salt AND sand. I might just give it a try but only after a thorough pressure wash. The last thing I want to get is one little grain of sand from a crevice stuck in a towel.

Re: Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere - Scent on car paint (Quick Review)

Certainly the product, as any, has its limitations. We highly recommend that in the case of very heavy dirt or road salt the car be pressure washed at a coin op place first to remove all the heavy contaminants. But once that's done, use of this product is no different than a rinse free product, of which there are several on the market used with great success by a larger number of people. For routine cleaning - like commuting to and from work for a week or more, even with some rain, this is an extremely safe and effective way to clean a car without use of a bucket and hose.

I'll be really candid with everyone here - when I learned that we were developing this product the first thing I asked was whether or not it was also going to be released as a concentrated product so that it could be used as a rinseless wash, similar to ONR and others. I've used ONR in the past and really like it, but of course I'd love to use our own product in that segment. Anyway, my primary reason for asking was because, quite frankly, I thought that a spray on product was downright scary for this purpose. I wanted a concentrate, which we in fact are now producing in the form of D114 Rinseless Express Wash (which is similar but without the wax), which is great! But the more I played with UWWA, the more I demo'd it for people, the more I saw what it could really do, the more I liked it. And I have to say that now, I love the stuff. I drove my weekend toy to SEMA in Las Vegas back in November, and it got rained on almost the whole way back. And "the whole way back" means basically driving through the Mojave Desert. In the rain. Along a major trucking route. The car was filthy when I got home (by far and away the dirtiest this car has ever been - I normally take a bucket and hose to this car maybe twice a year) so I figured it was the perfect test for UWWA. The car looked like I had done a proper bucket wash on it, and there wasn't a mark on it. I did use half a dozen towels on the car, which is a small two seat convertible with a cloth top, so not a lot of paint to clean with those 6 towels. That was the final clincher for me.

I just picked up a couple of bottles yesterday and look forward to using UWWA. Weather has been mild and no salt!!

The best thing was the bottles had $5 mail-in rebates. Yes!!! At Advance Auto Parts.

Finally this thing show up at local Autozone. I want pick one up and try it immediately. Just like what it said "WASH and WAX". The surface becomes very smooth after I wipe it dry. Feel like just waxed. I was lucky enough to have rain after I did the whole car and YES I see water beads.
