Microfiber towels.

I just read the tag on a microfiber towel. It is 85% polyester and 15% nylon. Will this scratch your paint

Probably about the same as the other tag you read.

What its made of wont cause scratching, it is how it is made that matters. And Meguiars, and other good ones like Cobra, etc will be made properly.

I have several of these... there are very plush.

It just seems strange. The polyester in the mcrofiber towels. Correct me if I'm wrong. But
All my life I have been told to only use cotton towels.

I have a couple of them, they seem pretty nice. I've used them on my paint a fee times when needed, and not seen anything bad.

A MF towel will definately be man-made fibers.

It this is so, they have figured out a way to make it so the good ones are soft as a baby's butt.

I have a couple of them, they seem pretty nice. I've used them on my paint a fee times when needed, and not seen anything bad.

Auto Zone's?
The Costco towels seem softer after a wash. I would suggest washing them alone.
You won't get any of the remaining dirt residue in the wash water on them... such as little rocks etc

Oh, I meant the Costco ones I have seem nice.

The others I have (besides Meguiars) are the Target ones, which I use moslty for the interior.

I wouldnt want to rub a baby across my paint either... I think it just comes dowwn to how the fibers are woven, shaped, etc.

Polyester versus cotton. A potentially interesting topic!

Cotton ends up being a pretty broad term, just as polyester is. Consider the difference between two 100% cotton items: a soft, fluffy Egyptian cotton bath towel and a pair of blue jeans - which would you rather rub on the paint of your car? Both are 100% cotton, remember.

So not all cotton items are created equal, nor are all polyester items. The polyester and other synthetic threads used in quality microfiber towels are not only incredibly fine but are also shaped in such a way that they actually pull small particles of dirt away from the paint and into the towel, and then hang on to it. All those cotton loops in a terry cloth towel can actually be pretty aggressive and create a fair amount of marring of the paint in their own right.

As Murr says, technology moves forward. Microfiber towels, provided you source them from a well known and reputable manufacturer, are generally far safer on your paint than most (most!) cotton towels.
