Don't worry about M101 Foam Cut Compound, Paul.

It's targeted towards European fresh aftermarket paint systems. It works best with foam cutting pads. Take it outside its recommended design and it may not perform that well at all.

M105 Ultra Cut Compound and Ultimate Compound are our products to go for now.

      Re: New M101 Compound??????????

OK, we'll try to distill down the discussions that have taken place on other forums after some folks managed to obtain this European only formula here in the USA.

This is the first product that Meguiar's actually developed outside the US. It was still created by our chemists here in Irvine, CA, but we actually shipped our lead man for the project to Europe, along with a mini lab set up, so that he could quickly respond to testing and inputs and tweak the formula as needed. Pretty cool stuff, actually.
      • What is M101 designed for? Rotary buffing with a dedicated foam pad on European aftermarket (ie, body shop) paint.
      • Why "European" aftermarket paint? Because, unlike factory paint which is the same whether the car is sold in Europe, North America or Asia, aftermarket paints vary in different parts of the world. It's a high solids versus low solids situation with these different paints, and that can require different compound formulations to achieve maximum results. Oh, and for the record, factory paint is vastly different from a chemistry standpoint than the paint used in a body shop. If a body shop, whether in Europe or North America, were to shoot factory paint it would virtually never cure due to a body shops inability to bake it at sufficient heat and for sufficient time. It's just not economically feasible for a body shop to have that sort of equipment.
      • Why "dedicated foam pad"? While use of a wool pad is commonplace here in the US for sanding mark and swirl removal, in European body shops they almost never use wool. And rarely do they compound the entire vehicle - it's mostly spot repair following a repaint, and it's almost always with a foam pad. They also tend to run the rotary at fairly low rpm. So we've developed a dedicated foam pad to use with this compound, taking into account the cultural toward low speed rotary and anti wool bias.
      • Why did we send a chemist and mini lab to Europe? Lead time, really. Imagine if we sent product over there, had it tested, then had to tweak and send a new batch across the pond, repeat, repeat, repeat? It would have taken months. And we couldn't do the testing here because the aftermarket paint used in Europe is very different from that used here, due to environmental regulations.
So basically what we have here is a product developed for a very specific type of paint system and a pretty specific work flow. That a handful of guys have imported this back to the US (it is made domestically, just like all the rest of our products) and are finding success with it using either wool or microfiber pads is interesting, to say the least. At the moment we have no solid plans to introduce this product to the US market.

Given the interest and the success that people have had with it, perhaps it would be a good idea for Meguiar's to seriously consider introducing it to the market?

Thanks for the detailed response Mike.

          I especially like this statement:

          It gives us hope.

            Stroops,

I have to believe you guys know that M101 is an amazing product and works nearly flawlessly here in the states too. I got a chance to work with it back in 2010 and was blown away in comparison to 105 in cut, finish and min dust. I was using a MF pad, and a DA and the results were stellar! Pass on the word, continually, that this is a game changer for pro detailers here in the states, I have got to believe that its a no brainer to sell it here.

            Cheers,

+1 with Greg and the rest !

Please reconsider selling this to Europe only.
Thinking about it, Detailers, really serious Detailers, are and always will be - innovative - We will buy this and we will make it work if it is really that good!

You have a huge Client base here - do you not want to bring in more $$$ ?

Think about for a moment, what Menzerna did years ago, and ask - better still, pick out any professional Detailer and poll them for Menzerna products, and I bet every one of them have some of their products, which were developed for the same purposes in Europe.

You can start your poll with me !

              Thanks for your help !

After having a chance to try M101 I can say it does fantastic on factory paint and runs circles around 105 both old formula and new. With both micro fiber pads or foam the work time was longer. Using a rotary as recommended was sweet but the da handeled corrections without problems as well. I hope Meguiars has a change of marketing plans and makes m101 available here in the states.

Is this product something magic or is it something like "They have and we want it"?
I am sure there are many products on the market that are compatible with this one. What marketing needs to keep in mind that once you loose a customer to a certain product you lost him for good. My 2 cents worth.

What the few who've used it claim is that is works faster, cleaner and better than M105. That's not magic, just better chemistry.

Maybe Megs can tweak 105 to work like 101 and call it ULTRA CUT COMPOUND 2.0 (M105) just like they did with SWIRL REMOVER 2.0 (M09) and DIAMOND CUT COMPOUND 2.0 (M85)

That's really good news for entire detailing world about Meguiar's ability to bring another great product to the market. M105 is an amazing compound and if there's technology available to deliver even more cut without sacrificing finishing ability that's a win-win situation.

I'm sure Meguiar's R&D Department is already working on next generation of SMAT products, including those intended for cured factory paint systems.

                              New M310 Compound??????????

Just tried M310 and found it had a bit less cut than M105 virtually no dusting and a much longer work time.
