It's highly effective at cleaning road grime and tire dressings off the sidewall, but it may not do quite the same job on white walls or raised white letters as Westleys - I don't know that we really targeted that product with All Wheel & Tire Cleaner. But AW&TC is also great for cleaning factory wheels, not just the tires.

Is this product safe on brake caliper rubber seals?

That's not a problem at all. What could be an issue, however, is if you've got an aftermarket brake kit with either powdercoated or anodized calipers or a multi piece rotor with anodized hats. Powdercoated parts may well be stained by the product, and anodized parts will certainly suffer. This caution is called out on the bottle, so be aware of the other parts lurking behind your wheels before spraying this on.

Wait a second! Most (if not all) factory and aftermarket wheels are powdercoated! But you are saying this product could damage powdercoating on brake parts. Huh?

I don't think I've seen factory powder coated wheels. Most of them are some type of alloy or aluminum. I've used this product several times on my stock wheels and had no problems.

No, the vast majority of factory wheels are painted and clear coated. Aftermarket brake components are all over the place when it comes to the finish chosen, some are pretty stout while others are very delicate. The only time we see issues with this product on factory wheels is when the product is allowed to dry on the surface or the clear coat on a factory polished aluminum wheel has been compromised in some way (common with external clamp on wheel weights that have been installed and removed) and the product leaches under the clear and stains the underlying polished aluminum.

I believe entry level aftermarket rims are powder coated. I'm thinking the common color being black.

I have Enkei wheels, and their advertising staes that they are powdercoated. They sure look like it, as are some Moda wheels I have. Please check your facts... most OEM and aftermarket wheels are powdercoated.

Hot Rims All Wheel And Tire Cleaner is perfectly safe on all factory coated wheels. Period. Your Enkei and Moda wheels are aftermarket, and the type of coatings on aftermarket wheels are all over the map. If your car or truck is wearing the wheels it was fitted with at the factory, this product will not harm them when used properly. Yes, we've had issues when people spray it on and let it sit for 10 minutes, or allow it to dry, but that's why the directions on the bottle implicitly state not to do that. We do see that the powder coated finish on many aftermarket brake kits, and many aftermarket wheels, is nowhere near as stout as the coating on factory OEM wheels and can have issues with this product.

I have aftermarket wheels on a couple of my cars, and one set is most definitely painted, with a polished lip, and fully clear coated. Now, just because these wheels of mine are painted doesn't mean all aftermarket wheels are, just as your aftermarket Enkei and Moda wheels being powdercoated does not guarantee that others are, too.

But the bottom line here is this: the coating used by the OEMs on their wheels (even polished aluminum because the OEMs put a clear on those as well due to the high level of maintenance required for bare highly polished aluminum) can easily hold up to this product, but the coatings used on aftermarket brake parts (calipers and rotor hats) usually can not. That's what's important here. Period.

I used this stuff last weekend on my wife's car and it did an amazing job. I have never seen the tires so clean and the dressing is holding better. Awesome.

I just want to start off by saying these threads are a great help. I've read through them and think Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire Cleaner is the product for my situation. Just to make sure I'm going to ask you guys for your opinion. I just picked up a set of 15in factory rims from an 88 Camaro RS. They are painted with clear coat; how them came from the factory. I used soap and water to get most of the brake dust off but there is still some thick parts of brake dust build up mainly on the backside of the wheel. My question is, is Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire Cleaner the product I need? I want to make sure I'm not going to damage the wheel's clear coat or any other part of it.

                              camaroz, welcome to MOL!

As to your question, if these are factory wheels with the factory coating, then Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner would be your product of choice. It is important to remember that you must work on one wheel at a time, from start to finish, and not spray all four wheels with product and then go back to the first one and start agitating or rinsing. If you've got some built up brake dust you will still need to use a wheel brush to agitate the surface and brake it up, and it may even take a couple of applications. But as long as the clear coat is healthy and not flaking off at the edges you won't have any problems.
