    Ultimate Polish or Ultimate Marketing?

I got a bottle of this stuff for my 2008 mazda 3 black mica. Holy **** is this a pain in the butt to wipe off. I followed the instructions and wiped with a terry cloth immediately after applying, and I got to say it just would not come off. Got half of my car done in about 3 hours, sore as hell arms and legs. I do not notice any difference in the half that was done and the half that was not. Whats up with that?

Immediate thoughts that come to mind are - how much product are you using; how large of an area are you working at a time; how long are you using the product before wipe off? Working by hand you shouldn't be dealing with an area much more than about 1' x 1' and you should work the product until it's just a very thin film on the surface but still wet if you run your finger through it. That's when you should wipe it off, and it should come off pretty easily at that point. You do need to work it pretty vigorously though, it's not like a wax where you just gently wipe on a thin layer and let it dry; it needs to be worked pretty aggressively in order for the abrasives to do their thing and remove the defects from the paint.

Something must have gone wrong on the way with your Ultimate Polish application.

What type of applicator did you use? If wipe off was so difficult you must have applied too much product for sure and it wasn't worked in fully. Microfiber towels are easier and safer to remove product remaining.

Re: Ultimate Polish or Ultimate Marketing?

I was polishing my hood yesterday also using the "Ultimate Polish". The paint did NOT get shinier and was extremely hard to wipe off. I ended up spraying a mist of water on it, then wiped with my microfiber towel, but it was still a hard to wipe off dull finish. I was trying out a new cotton wool pad on my rotary, anyway I stopped and thought maybe I was using the wrong pad. Sure enough, I slapped a foam pad on applied it the same way and the shine came right back and was very easy to wipe off. What kind of applicator/pad are you using?

    Hope this helps

It is not recomended for use with a rotary by megs. But imo it works great with a rotary. A foam finish pad and a rotary on a low rpm works well. Wipes off easy. Do not let this product dry up on the paint at all. If it is hot out try misting the pad or the paint a bit, gives you a longer working time. Although this should not really be needed with ultimate polish as their are lubricants in their that make it work for a while.

Also what is the finish like on that 08 mazda? Is it slightly weathered needing a good cleaning? If so ultimate polish is some real light duty stuff. Hardly any cut.It wont do much for this kind of paint. Maybe need some ultimate coumpound first. Ultimate compound on a machine with a polish or finish pad is a good combo as well. Pretty safe product to use.

im betting your car has some ASBC aka above surface bonded contaminants, meaning at a microscopic level its like trying to remove polish from painted cement. if that makes any sense. clay surface before any type of polishing helps, also take some pictures of your ride and take one picture using macro(little flower icon) on your camera so we can see paint condition. im betting you will need something heavier duty to get the finish you want. also, you failed to mention what type of result your trying to see? are you trying to see some dramatic result or trying to bump up the gloss?

OK, so I went a different route, Clayed the surface first and used a terrycloth instead of the microfiber for removing the UP, much easier, than a coat of NXT, then buffed with the microfiber, nice results, still took about 10 hours and my arms, legs are sore as heck, and I split a pair shorts. Wish I had before photos, was in good condition prior to, just no gloss. These are taken with a phone camera.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

    It came out very nice.

I'm glad you didn't give up after the first attempt.

Re: Ultimate Polish or Ultimate Marketing?

tdbss_ , it looks like you managed to get the sort of result you were looking for with Ultimate Polish, and we're glad you followed up on this thread with your success story.

It is really important for everyone to remember that no product is going to perform exactly the same on every single car as there as so many variables when detailing - what's the overall condition of the paint (smooth, aged and dry, badly swirled, lots of above surface contaminants, oxidation, etc)?; what's the ambient temperature and humidity?; how much product are you applying each time?; how large or small an area are you working on?; how long are you working the product?; are you working by hand or with a buffer of some kind?

We do everything we can to create a product that's going to deliver success across a wide variety of surfaces under a wide variety of variables, but nothing can give 100% consistent results in every single case. People often ask why we make so many different products that all seem to do the same basic thing, and this is part of the reason why. Anyone who's been at this game for a long time and has worked on all kinds of different cars with as many different paint systems will tell you that every now and then a product, even a long time favorite, is just simply not compatible with a given situation. This is also a part of the reason why we stand behind all of our products 100% - if you're ever not satisfied with a product or didn't live up to your expectations, we'll refund your money or replace the product with something else. We do ask for some kind of proof of purchase (usually even a photograph of the product emailed to us will suffice) but that's about it. But it's also why every single bottle of product we sell has the toll free number to our Customer Care Center printed on the back label - 800.347.5700. Our CCC staff isn't here just to take complaints and issue refunds; they'll discuss your particular situation and work with you to help sort out your technique or recommend a different product, or just steer you toward the right product in the first place. Our guys don't read off a script or have a file full of canned answers - if they can help you in 2 minutes, great; but if takes an hour on the phone to really get into the nitty gritty of an issue, they'll do that too.
