  • Dealing with super dried paints

I've already had an experience with my single stage super dried paint, when it was "absorbing" the M85 instantly while I was trying to remove severe cobwebs
The results was consuming much of the product, to get minimum results...

I've also heard that things would be even worse with M105, as the dried paint would **** the small abrasives even faster

I know that oil based polishes like M80 would moist the paint, but they're too weak to remove severe defects like cobwebs, or paint scratches....

    So my question essentially is...

In case of a very dried paint, is there a "preparation" step to moist the paint, to make further buffing easier (and maybe cheaper) ??
Please indicate if the same solution will work for both single stage and clear coat paints

    Thanks in advance

You might be surprised how effectively M80 or M83 will remove swirls and other defects. But you are right about them, especially M80, being very oil rich and therefore beneficial when working on dried out paint. You may want to give the paint a once over with M80 first just to get those oils into the pores, and then follow with something stronger if needed. Or you could use a healthy dose of M07 to start. This is actually fairly common when working on dried paint, but even more so when working on badly dried out gel coat on boats and RVs. Gel coat is much more porous than paint and when severely dried out can really pose a challenge. An application of a pure polish generally makes the correction task that much easier.
