My reason for considering the PC was that it apparently does 'bog down' when you lean into it. I thought for a novice like me that could be a safety feature.

But on second thought, I'm ordering the G110v2; in part as a small token of my appreciation for time and effort Michael took to respond in so much detail (no pun intended)

To the best of my knowledge(double check me on this one), the G110v2 has a very similar feature. I remember seeing a video on here about one of the Meguiar's Detail Pro's(i cannot remember who was in the video) using the G110v2 and he turned the thing on and slammed it down on his hand and I believe the clutch system made it to where the motor was still running but the pad was hardly spinning. Trust me, after you use the G110v2 you will be hooked. . . .supposedly my G110v2 is going to hit my door in three days. . . .the best part about this is, my wife has no idea I ordered it!!!

All of the quality DA tools will bog down under pressure, they just don't all do it at the same point. The G110v2 will keep the pad spinning under more pressure than the XP will, especially at slower speeds like when applying polish or wax. You're going to love working with this tool - just make sure to get the correct pads and use good technique and you'll be fine. We've done so many different types of cars with all kinds of defects during our Saturday classes and we get great results time after time.

I ordered(per Michael's suggestion) three Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Polishing Pads(W8207) and two of the Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Finishing Pad(W9207). Just make sure the G110v2 that you ordered came with the Soft Buff 2.0 DA Backing Plate(W68DA).

I need some clarification. Was about to order 6.5 pads, etc.

It does come with the Backing Plate(W68DA)

What's the difference between the 6.5 and 7 in. pads? Do I need a different backing plate for 6.5 pads.

Why make two products that are .5 in. different in diameter?

The 6.5" Softbuff pads were the first generation foam pads Meguiar's offered. The W67DA backing plate should be fit for these pads.

The 7" Softbuff 2.0 pads are an improvement to the previous generation. The main benefit of these pads is that its machine washable. You can just throw them in the washer/drier after each use and they will come out looking like new. The previous generation softbuff pads weren't like this. Also, the Softbuff 2.0 pads have a recessed hole where the hook and loop velcro attachment of the backing plate could be attached to. The W68DA backing plate fits these softbuff 2.0 pads perfectly and you can center these pads easily because of the recessed feature.
