  • DA Microfiber Correction System Question

I live in Phoenix and even though after washing and claying the car it was 9 p.m. when starting the correction system, it was near 100 degrees, so the car was not cool to the touch, but not hot either. I started with a 2 x 2 area on the front center of the hood.

I had some trouble in that the correction compound was very hard to remove, in fact I needed to use the clay to finally remove it. The Microfiber towel would only remove very little, I could remove it with my finger. I have read about hazing, but not sure if that is what I was dealing with.

The correction compound seemed to turn white immediately, so I wondering if the panel was too warm, causing it to dry too fast.

I followed the directions on the fold-out that came with, and started with 5 dots of compound in the shape of and 'X' on the pad. After viewing additional videos today, I did not re-apply compound after running the DA for just a few rotations. But the pad was a solid pink, so I think the pad was primed ok. I did clean the pad with a brush and added more compound in the shape of a cross, but got the same result. Maybe there was too much product after I re-applied?

One more thing the wrench that came with the DA does not fit the nut, so it is hard to tighten the backing plate. The wrench is too small. I think I have the backing plate snug though.

    Thanks
    John

Re: DA Microfiber Correction System Question

I have used the Correction Compound in 85 degree weather on hot black paint with almost zero issues besides a little dusting which can only be expected (Black Jeep Wrangler: Microfiber System).

The wrench should be absolutely correct. Try contacting Meguiars Customer Care.

You should only need 2-3 pea sized drops on the pad after initially using more to prime the pad.

As for the compound being hard to remove, it should still remove very easily. It wiped off effortlessly in the write-up above.

Re: DA Microfiber Correction System Question

Two of the things that can really hurt you when using this system are to over use the product and not cycle it long enough. After priming the pad as you did, applying that full "x" of product is serious overkill. You literally only need 3 to 5 pea sized drops of product on the pad for each section. This is something we see people struggle with as they can't wrap their heads around that small amount of product actually being sufficient to get the job done. We've seen people slowly grow those pea sized drops into something the size of large gumballs. At that point we generally ask them where they're buying their produce because we've never seen peas that big.

Once you've got that part down, you need to work the product for a sufficient time period. Usually that involves covering a 2' x 2' area in overlapping passes going side to side, then up and down, then repeat both directions.

Another thing to consider here is ambient humidity. Shawn, you're an East Coaster so your humidity level, even on a dry day, is going to be waaay above what John will see on a humid day in Phoenix. That can cause a product to dry up faster, and if you're over using that product in those conditions, it only compounds the problem.
