  • Best thread on "How to use a Rotary Polisher"???

What is the best thread or instructions on "How to use a rotary polisher"?
My neighbor is going to let me borrow his to try to get scratches out of my hood. I'm sure there is a great, overly detailed tutorial on here somewhere that I'm missing.

You.re going to hear this a lot in response to your question, but unless you have previous experience using a rotary polisher (as opposed to a dual action polisher), the potential for damaging your paint via buffer swirls (low-end) all the way through paint burn through (high-end) is a risk that you are taking with your paint.

Thank you, and I understand there are definite risks.

I just got back from picking up some Ultimate Compound at Wal-Mart. I'm going to give it a good go by hand with the UC first before I borrow the rotary. He has experience with the rotary, so I will definitely watch the videos then ask him a few extra questions based on what I watch and his experience.

The Ultimate Compound by hand did not get rid of all the scratches, but it did a MUCH better job than the Meg Body Scrub that I tried first because I already had some. I would say nearly 70% of the scratches are gone (all but the deeper ones) and the paint is slightly deeper looking as well. I finished it up with Showcar Glaze #7 and NXT 2.0 which will be good enough for now until I get a DA Polisher. Using a DA with the UC, I think the rest would probably come out.

Great observations, and a great plan for the long run. As an enthusiast detailer you'll be much happier with the DA buffer.
